Saved 72 horses lives this synthetic stuff according to some stats i've seen on another thread.

I wonder if the money they paid out for syth would have done same or similar had it been spent on Dirt track maintenance and pre-race horse and trainer inspections.

They use the worst three years of dirt and compare them to new synthetic surfaces with a new base. I would make the case that when the dirt base was newer (like 2002-2004) it proves that a dirt surface with a newer base is way more safe than a new synthetic junk surface!

That is the big question, isn't it. Was this the most effective use (in terms of horse safety) of the funds expended?

Franks says he wants to to talk to horsemen, which is fair enough.

Horsemen want Dirt back don't they???

He's right when he states "this model is broken"

Charlie D 02-27-2010 01:10 PM

Look forward to hearing what he thinks are the "problems"

All I can say is that the guy must have smart attorneys.

Remember guys as he stated, it was mandated that Socal gets rid of Dirt. so the people we should really blame for this mess are those that made that so.

I get impression he wants Socal and USA racing to be best racing around, but that's not going to happen unless the broken model and it's problens are fixed.

Lot of work to be done by Frank, horsemen, state and government leaders.

Doc Allred told them what to do with the madate and Stronach could have as well.

That's what they say.

I remember when Ron Charles had an opportunity to change and he didn't. That's when I knew these guys were incompetent. I wish I would have saved the emails. You can't believe how misguided these guys are.

The salesmen, sell thier products well Andy, but the evidence seems to suggests thier products are no better than a well maintained Dirt surface.

So you probably need to look elsewhere for the "problems" causing these high rates of mortality.

Trainer and vet care, unsound horses and poorly maintained Dirt tracks could be a good starting point.

Excerpt:

It's time Santa Anita stopped all the games and the pro-synthetic folks ceased with all their numbers and statistics that are colored to fit their arguments. Ladies and gentlemen, California horse racing used to be the model for the sport. It's getting to the point where it's now the laughing stock of the rest of the industry.

These are sad, sad times for anyone who truly loves this game.

DJofSD 02-27-2010 02:35 PM

Easy solution: Northern California tracks, AWS; Southern California tracks, dirt. Then let the owners and trainers decide what they want to run and train their horses over. Want to try the other surface? Ship.

Charlie D 02-27-2010 02:49 PM

Thats a good simple solution DJofSD. But these guys don't seem to do good simple solutions. ;)
