Calvin Borel = Stewart Elliot

about an 8th too soon

MNslappy 06-06-2009 06:38 PM

Chip not too happy

chickenhead 06-06-2009 06:41 PM

ballsy decision by Pletcher/Johnny V to take Dunkirk to the front...wasn't expecting that.

toussaud 06-06-2009 06:46 PM

they finally found what dunkirk wants to do. he showed me something today even in losing. he'll be a grade 1 winner by the end of the year somewhere

Imriledup 06-06-2009 06:51 PM

When you are on the favorite, you can never move too soon, you can only move too late.

Tom 06-06-2009 06:52 PM

The Governor said he was sorry he missed the winning move. :p

The way he looked at the end reminds me of Monarcho's

and you know how well he did after winning a Triple Crown race.............

Agree 100% and he battled the whole way. very surprised he ran that well considering he set all the fractions.

toetoe 06-06-2009 06:58 PM

I think the distance was too much for almost all of these. Regardless of the timing of the move, Dunkirk was just better than MTB for second.

Summerbirdridge,

Nice pick, podnah. . On your behalf, I am steamed that he didn't pay $40 or so. .

toussaud 06-06-2009 07:15 PM

honestly, MTB never had a real chance. he lost the race when he was "only" 10 back the entire race.

borel didnt' help the cause by moving too early.

summer bird was 3 lengths in front of him the entire race and didn't move until at elast an 8th after borel

I disagree with this. If you watched the Belmont races the last couple days. there have been a number of horses who have lost the lead on the rail and rerallied to beat the horse to their outside. I liked Dunkirk's effort, but I'm not sure he was really "better."

MartyZee 06-06-2009 08:48 PM

I think the best horse won today- People are applauding Kent and bashing Calvin-aren't these the same people that were bashing Kent in last year's Belmont? I didn't bet the race and it's just my opinion that Calvin didn't do anything wrong today; LOSERS always have excuses

The trainer blamed both he and Calvin a little after the race in the news conference, but I believe the bigger blame is on the trainer. The horse was too amped and wouldn't take direction from Calvin. That's on the trainer. If Calvin had pulled MTB back, you'd really have a Calvin=Kent and MTB=BB. Last place maybe. All in all, I don't blame either the trainer or Calvin. Summer Bird was the best today.

 to Dunkirk. He justified my praise this spring. Great performance on the lead for 11F. Unfortunately, I stopped betting him after the KD. :bang:

Lots of contributing factors got the favorite beat.

A track that was more speed and inside favoring.

Borel moving a hair too soon.

The rigors of the Triple Crown catching up to MTB.

MickJ26 06-06-2009 11:27 PM

That's the way it goes in sports.
You're a hero one day and a bum the next.
I hope Calvin doesn't vanish back into obscurity again like he did after Street Sense.
