"Evil Empire" Stuff: Churchill Downs Denies Derby Media Credential To Caton Bredar

Excerpts:

Bredar tweeted the news on Thursday morning, saying she was “heartbroken” that her 18-year run on WAVE 3 was ending. There was an outpouring of support from the racing public and fellow journalists. The tweet has since been deleted.

“Not only is Caton Bredar a great broadcaster, she is an ambassador for this sport we all love,” said Alicia Wincze-Hughes, president of the National Turf Writers and Broadcasters. “Officers of the NTWAB are concerned about this issue and are inquiring with all involved parties to see what can be done. The organization doesn't want to say anything further until we know more.”

“If it can happen to me, it can happen to anybody.”

Todd Schrupp, longtime TVG personality, has assisted Lexington NBC affiliate LEX 18 with its Derby coverage off-site for several years. According to sources, that station has been told its reporters may be denied media credentials if Schrupp is part of its team this year, despite his not being on site.

BTW the CDI stock was up 21 points yesterday. It's a juggernaut.

It's all such childish nonsense. The industry stands to have better information, better coverage, more options, and everyone will make more money if just a few people would start behaving like the adults in the room and work these things out.

Using the only true marquee event this game has as a pawn in some game is in poor taste. I think someone should stand up a $10,000,000 G1 race to be run on the first Saturday in May for 3YO's and see how long Churchill remains a bully.

CD has zero credibility. The people who run it are frankly BASTARDS in the first degree. Professionals not allowed, but they will feature those GD stupid wate to time idiotic bimbos in their butt-head hats prominently.
It was tempting to think Todd should take one for the team and recuse himself, but after thing about it, NO! CD has no class at all to make that demand, and the team should and tall and STOP all reporting of anything CD related - FOREVER.

That track is the worst POS track in the country.
Didn't they throw Ron Turcotte out of his wheel chair a couple of years ago?

My sincere hope is that we get a DELUGE of biblical proportions next weekend and wash out their party. Maybe even a tornado or two about 4:00 or so.
Would not bother me a bit if the Derby had to be cancelled. Life goes on.
The REAL race in the TC series is the Preakness anyways. The Derby and Belmont are throw away races, filler.

Time to boycott it.......oh, wait, I HAVE been boycotting it for over a decade.

Byk is on-site thisweek - wonder if he will approach the subject with the resident moron there he always interviews?

The Masters golf tournament does this all the time.

Usually this sort of thing reflects a personal grudge held by someone in power.

So childish, use the most popular race as a pawn. So what's next, saying that if your horse ran at a track not owned by CDI, you can't run in the Derby?

They already have decided what races other people can use to qualify.
Now, who can cover the event.

Your idea if probably on their list of things to do.

Right after "Rape customers with pricing" and "kill kittens in the infield right after Our Old Kentucky Home."

Remember that kid on the bridge in Deliverance?
He is now the GM at CD.

Good, cause I thought I saw him in the alley behind my house the other night.

Lots of words to describe this. Shocking and surprising unfortunately aren't included.

This one is a little different though. Caton is an independent contractor, not a TVG employee like Todd S. She has covered the Derby for something like 18 years. CD should want the best people at what they do involved in all aspects of this weekend. She is for sure one of those. It’s just ridiculous.

Let me start by saying it is outrageous to do this absent some serious misconduct by Caton (and I am not aware of any).

But realistically, Churchill holds all the power here. The Derby is bigger for the media than the media is for Churchill, so the track can throw its weight around any way it wants.

Wasn’t her husband once the racing Secretary at CD?

Bad blood?

In a world where Johnnie what’s his name and Tara Lipinski? Are working a national racing show and Caton Bredar is forced out of a local TV gig, what the hell is next.....?

CD downs caters to the weaker minds, not the best ones.

The product they are selling is NOT horse racing.
All you have to do is watch one of the Derby broadcasts and that is obvious.
Disgraceful little whores putting on a social event. Nothing more.
