 ... and for looking to project final odds by sharpening up their morning line for folks who prefer making bets in pools where they don't lose more than 90% of the time.

If those people are even listening anymore? I hope so, they're trying some new things. :)

Emerald Downs is owned by the Muckleshoot Tribe. Casino money is definitely involved. (Just an fyi.)

That said, I've always enjoyed their racing product - and in light of the new changes will go out of my way to support it going forward.

Well, then....

....what's not to like about their business decision?
I hope that it leads to an upturn in handle.

You are correct. That said, they have no casino at the track. In the condition book you can see is coming from the muckleshoot tribe. It’s like 20% of purses. They also get people to the track, and those first timers are what will be the next generation of fellow horseplayers, if there is one. As a young person(Gen Z), I hope there are other people who will support racing in the future too

I know one EMD fan that's going to be happy about this.

Just to clarify, last year they went with a low takeout double and pick 3 (10 percent). This year it is back to rip off pricing on those pools and they have decided to use the pick six and the last race super hi 5 as their low percentage takeout pools. Not sure this is really a win for the horse player. Just feeding that trend of only giving good pricing on low percentage type bets. It just drives horse players away from the high churn bets that this sport was built on. Personally, I like a 8 percent takeout traditional pick six. But if you want to try to drive volume into your venue, an 8 percent wps pool with penny breakage will do it. It also would enable the laymen to lose reasonable amounts and/or become a winning player in that pool. If I was picking the pools that I wanted to give a fair shake in I would go with the wps pool at 8 percent and the pick 6 pool as they are but bring the minimum down to 20 cents. The pick six opportunity makes people handicap 6 races and a low takeout enables them to churn and grind.the lower minimum gives the smaller player a reasonable chance to hit them.

Was 14.7% in 2022. Then they moved it to 16% in 2023 when they switched to the 10% doubles and pick 3's. Now those are gone and we're stuck with low takeout on low-churn bigger multi-race wagers.

Yay for the breakage - but boo for the rest from my point of view. To each their own. Glad for those of you that like this. I'll be playing at Hawthorne as long as they're running.

I was not aware of that. That said I don’t think that 16% if half bad. What track other than Hawthorne has it that low?

They don't have slots (yet) at the track, but they definitely have a casino. About 4-5 years ago, they remodeled the 5th floor and added table games (Fortune Pai Gow, etc.). I have heard that the casino is not really a money make because, let's face, people love slots. Also, the Muckleshoot Casino is only about 2-3 miles away from the track.

EMD website say casino is closed. It’s been that way for a while
