my handle, my choice
this player won't be betting into the pimlico/preakness weekend cards. why? they're allowing baffert and his charges to compete. therefore they lose my handle and the 50 to 100 bucks of rake i'd contribute to their coffers. individually that's not much. just think if there's 100k players like me. they'd feel it. not gonna organize the cause. but it's my money and i don't wanna contribute to a sham.

The race and card are not that great this year anyway. TVG and TwinSpires offering refundable win bets on the cards so I’ll throw some money against the Baffert chalk. Maybe also dial up a tri bet that would pay well. Medina is the worst Baffert Derby winner* on paper and would need to pair the top on short rest. Pimlico can take their 15% for that shot.

My decision is to not play races with Baffert runners in them.
That’s race 1 and 13 at PIM on Saturday.
I’ve had enough.

Since I moved to Az. I am not allowed to play Pimlico. Haven't decided if I am going to watch the Preakness or not. Don't really care at this point.

How do bet on the day to day races then, or does this moral high ground translate to the every day trainer who doesnt have the top shelf talent that Baffert has to be in big races?

Per Daisy Phipps Pulito @daisy pp
Actually Phipps stable has already talked to Shug and won’t run in any race at Pim this weekend where we don’t feel like we are running on a level playing field.
This is out there so let’s see. It’s gonna be a circus. Kind of like a black eye affair for the media.

Shug did 15 days last year after getting nailed in, of all places, Ohio...lol
Anyhoo...I plan on betting MORE THAN USUAL this weekend (maybe even MORE than that when BAFFERT is in the race)...just to offset the nonsense in these types of threads.

Fridays card looks excellent. Hopefully there won't be the normal 20-30% worth of scratches each race that seems to be the normal routine every time I handicap a card at Laurel. I gave up playing in MD due to all the scratches on that circuit.

gotta admit to hypocrisy. day to day i do indeed bet races with doped horses in them because it's fiscally responsible to do so and i don't think twice about it. it's illogical. i'm aware and not as ashamed of the contradiction as i probably should be. i very much dislike to see the sport's biggest prize go to a doped horse. i am a hypocrite.

How is people expressing their frustration and choosing to exercise their right to refrain from betting considered nonsense? I'm not in that group exactly, and I'll still be betting, simply because I want to win and I'm a good handicapper, and it's still entertainment to me despite the BS that Baffert spews, but I completely understand the zounds of people who are pissed off and want nothing to do with races (or tracks) that Baffert is associated with. The dude is a disingenuous, lying clown, and horse racing, with its already meager/niche following and scandalous reputation, deserves a better social figurehead.

I mean, if you want to pretend I'm somehow alone in my thinking, by all means go ahead, but that's pretty tone deaf. The basis of this thread (which I didn't start, by the way) is exactly what I referred to with my comments.
Thanks for your contribution to the site though.

Just to let you know, Bob Baffert is a gentleman and is probably in the top 5% of the most honest and honorable people in the sport of horse racing.
FOR YOU TO CALL A PERSON DISINGENUOUS, LYING CLOWN AND NOT PERSONALLY KNOWING MR. BAFFERT SHOWS ME WHAT KIND OF DISINGENUOUS PERSON YOU ARE. Losers like you are a dime a dozen. you should be ashamed of yourself.
Good luck Friday & Saturday, stay positive and you my see your ROI go up.;)

They won't miss you as I expect record handle both on Friday & Saturday at Pimlico as they are giving the racing public two great cards and a lot of ways to make some serious money. You should reconsider as this sport is how much can I win today. Cards like these don't come along very often.:p
