Preakness TV Ratings?

Do you think the DQ helps or hurts the Preakness ratings?

Rex Phinney 05-06-2019 03:25 PM

This is the age of TMZ, Kardashians and social media leghumping.

Ratings will spike.

The DQ won't help the Preakness ratings...but it will do wonders for the ratings of the horseracing online chat rooms.

If Max Sec were going to run and set up.a rematch with Country House it would have sent ratings through the roof.

atwistoffate vs. country house showdown not so much

MARKET PENETRATION

ESPN, FoxNews, CNN, et al *... were not talking about Justify on the first Monday in May last year.

This year, they are talking about the Derby.

Any publicity (that isn't a breakdown/calling for abolition) is GOOD PUBLICITY(had to get in an 'all caps' 'yelling font', sorry).

*Last year al was complaining about having missed the Justify/Audible exacta, and et was phoning home to nostalgic Neflix viewers.

Derby ratings up 20% from last year. Tied with 1992 for highest since 1990.
Also a record betting handle for the day of 250 million

That, and if Trump tweets about it. :D

The hype and interest will wind down by preakness time.

castaway01 05-07-2019 09:35 AM

It definitely won't HURT the ratings since controversy seems to boost ratings in every other avenue of life.

Saratoga_Mike 05-07-2019 12:20 PM

With CH now out, ratings wont be great, imo

BlueChip@DRF 05-07-2019 01:55 PM

And the hits just keep oooooon comin'....

Google Search Interest.

  1. Numbers represent search interest relative to the highest point on the chart for the given region and time
  2. A value of 100 is the peak popularity for the term. A value of 50 means that the term is half as popular.
  3. A score of 0 means there was not enough data for this term

Kentucky Derby was the #1 searched term, over 2 million. These are the specific terms that people used.

YOY comparison for the search term Kentucky Derby. ( 5 years )
