Dutching With Three by Ray Taulbot

No I do not, but I am wondering if you ever used Ray Taulbot's method "Dutching With Three" . It was published in American Turf Monthly" September 1964 page 10. It involves playing three horses in claiming races and betting as close as to post time as possible. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Dutching always seems to promise more than it delivers.
Typical dutching always has you betting more on a horse who pays the least.
But it's fun to play that way. Whenever I take a relative or friend
to the racebook and I absolutely, positively want them to cash a
ticket and leave with more than they came with I have them dutch bet.

I "fade the favorite" and reverse dutch the next two or three on
the toteboard if just playing the toteboard. Or if I handicap the race I'll
use my top three selections but go with the toteboard prices.
You can't make any real money doing this but I usually don't get skunked
but sometimes I do.

Dutch

I never saw Ray's dutch method, but I do dutch and hedge often. The danger is the late odds drops. I had a good dutch the other day and in the far turn one of my horses odds dropped in half and he won but I lost money and would have hedged him if I knew the odds were going that low.

That's a pretty cool little program. I downloaded the free version to check it out. I Randomly selected the day of Thursday September 27, 2018 to test it.

Using the Black Magic portfolio ARC 3 and oddsline with no fine tuning. There were 17 ARC 3 races that day with 9 playable races by my standards. Dutching 2 and hedging 1 in all 9 races. (basically all 3 horses in the ARC)

Set for $25 to bet for each race. Finished the day -$26.

It was a quick test with no effort. I think if I had selected the pace lines in all the races instead of just leaving i to the program as I would do for real it would have been a positive outcome.

I approve of this program.

I don't think it works with 64 bit computers, they never updated the program.

Out of curiosity, is it a computerized version of the slide rule or was there something more to it (angles, etc.)?

lefty359 11-02-2020 01:30 PM

Trade, hedging usually means hedging he favorite. If you have 3 horses but can't dutch all 3 to make a profit, you can dutch the two longer odds and hedge the fav. That means you'll just break even if the fav wins but make money if one of the other 2 wins.

thanks lefty. It sound like a pretty conservative way to be profitable. Witch is appealing to me. Are there any other pointers you or anyone else have on playing this way??

I'm not a fan of dutching. You need a really high win pctg to be profitable.
I bet 2 horses a race but bet the same amt on both. The amt is determined by my betting plan.

detective 11-03-2020 11:03 PM

It's just a computerized version of the slide rule but may have thrown in the variant. I am trying to learn excel it shouldn't be that hard to make one.

detective 11-03-2020 11:05 PM

dutch

When I dutch I have narrowed the field down to it's contenders. and then look to see if you can profit by dutch two or hedge one and dutch two.
