Downloading PDF Files
Since Day 1, I have gotten PDF files from BRIS and EB that open in the system viewer, then downladed them from there. Then I open them in Foxit.
This past summer, when I downloaded from the viewer, they started automatically opening in Foxit. This was great! but I have idea why it happened.
Now, Friday, they no longer open in Foxit. I can open them manually, but I really like the automatic way.
Again, no idea why it happened, but it was right in the middle downloading charts.
Anyone else experience this?

No, Foxit is set as default.

Next possibility... Make sure you are opening it from your hard drive and not your browser.
IOW, find where it is download and open it from there.
When I download a PDF, there is a right-click selection that says, "Show in folder." Do that and then click on the file.

Put a lone pdf file on your desktop.
Right click on it
Does it offer “open with” If so choose Foxit and see what happens.
Try these too. Btw, some apps will change this setting when installed. And they don’t notify you.

That is what I do, buyt what was happening, is the pdf opens in the system viewer, I click on the download arrow, and the file is saved where I tell it to go, and simultaniuosly, it opens in Foxit. I did not have to go to the file and click on it.

I have problem opening with Foxit, or "open with" whatever else, it's just that the files were opening automatically when downloaded from the viewer, no action from me needed.
And of course, the Foxit help offers lot of options, all depending on tabs that are not showing anywhere in the program.

Got it.
When you right click that, there are also other options...."Open in System Viewer" and "ALWAYS Open in system viewer"
You can open the file here rather than show in folder, this one time, or evertime you download.
Twice now, I have had a problem with downloads not finishing, and used the Show in Folder to see if file was there....first time when I started getting automatic Foxit opening, and Friday. I muust have accidently changed it...twice.
Thanks to you and Ralph.

Hey Tom what exactly do you do with Foxit? do you just make the usual markings that you would have if you were marking up a paper and pen?

If you are downloading the files with your web browser, you might want to check the settings in your browser for default applications.

Yes, pretty much, notes, scratches, ratings, highlighting interesting things.

I made Foxit my default, but I had to check that "Always open with system viewer" to get it to automatically open on download.

If that is a setting within your browser it's the wrong setting. What browser are you using?
The idea is to set your web browser to default to a specific application -- not to your OS/system default.
Also, have you changed your web browser recently or made any updates to your software or user configurations?

This is the screen I get when I download a file. I click the arrow in the upper RH corner and I then get the option where to save it, and then as it saves, it also opens in Foxit. It wasn't opening until I checked "Always open system viewer" (not showing now).

You are merely showing a PDF viewer.
Again, what web browser are you using?
Also, what OS are you using (Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 10, Windows 11)?
Information helps...
