Liberal economic illiteracy at its finest

According to at least one analyst, ObamaCare is helping to stimulate the economy. A major driver of economic activity is consumer spending, and ObamaCare results in consumers spending more on health care, so that's a good thing and results in economic growth.

Over the past few years the public sector has not contributed much, if anything, to GDP and the US economy's growth.

There is one implemented policy, however, that appears to be helping.

Aneta Markowska, an economist at Societe Generale, broke down just how consumers are spending their money that they have saved since the drop in oil prices.

The largest increase in consumer spending since gas prices have dropped, according to Markowska, has been on healthcare.

Right. Because if those people weren't spending the money they are saving from lower gas prices on ObamaCare, they would not be spending that money at all. :D

It's frightening.

Even if they totally mis-educate you in school (which they probably do), you would think a reasonably bright person interested in economics and business would eventually start observing markets, investing for themselves, learning how businesses and people behave, etc... and eventually have a model of thinking that actually makes some sense.

Public healthcare spending should be a wash in the total picture. The numbers of public spending and the hospitals paying for the uninsured should cancel each other out unless other efficiencies are gained or lost. The only real difference will be on how we are charged. With the hospitals paying, those of us with insurance all share equally in the cost of the uninsured by paying higher premiums to cover the expense. With public healthcare, the cost applied will be absorbed and paid on a graduated scale to one's income. This is the real issue, not the healthcare.

I signed my Son and his Wife up for an ObamaCare policy so they would avoid having to pay a $1,390 penalty for being uninsured. I picked the cheapest Bronze Plan I could find. The cost is about $500 per month of which the Federal Gov't is covering about $300 with a subsidy. Basically it is nothing but an expensive Catastrophic Coverage Policy as their deductible is $12,000. Three thoughts:

# A simple Catastrophic Coverage Policy shouldn't cost $6,000 per year
# They are giving an Insurance Company $2,400 annually which they could be spending on other things in the economy
# We (the taxpayers) are giving the Insurance Company $3,600 annually

......and this is helping stimulate the economy?

The penalty is easily avoided. There is a form that has about a dozen different reasons why you don't have insurance. You fill it out, check one, and send it in. I haven't look at it in a while, but one of the options is kind of "none of the above", that says for unspecified reasons, you were able to buy insurance. No proof is needed.

Tell them you can't afford Health Insurance, you have been too sick.
It will make sense to them.:bang:

Apparently the Pope went to the same school of economics.

Quote:

Pope Francis is blasting employers who deny workers health insurance coverage, referring to them as "true leeches” who “live on the bloodletting of the people they make slaves to work."

"Exploitation of people today is a true slavery,” the pope said, referring to the suffering of workers who aren’t treated fairly. “We thought that slaves do not exist anymore. They exist. It's true, people don't go to Africa to take them and then sell them in America, no. But it's in our cities."

I believe that at least 5-10% of US GNP is lost because Moral convictions. If you are open for business you should be open to all. The same moral arguments were used prior 1960 to refuse to sell to blacks. Only the groups d discrimination have changed. Business should not have religion. Something that is not allowed in a lot of countries nor should it be allowed here. Decimation costs far more than Obamacare.

I don't know the age of your son, but if he's 25 or younger, you can get a really cheap short-term medical plan (up to one year) for about $40/month. Here's a site that offers it (completely legit):

https://www.agilehealthinsurance.com...m=kwd-23701193

You select a plan that costs about $40/month, or roughly $500/year and then you pay the penalty ... still better off. Note s-t medical plans are NOT governed by ACA; therefore, there's no guaranteed renewal. If I were to go this route, I'd learn all the difference between s-t medical and major medical upfront of course.

And the same arguments used today to regarding LGBT rights will be used in the future to normalize other kinds of perverted / deviant behavior currently deemed unacceptable by society today.

Blacks were wrongly discriminated against due to their race. But their was nothing immoral about being black.

I have never bought into the notion that since we wrongly discriminated against blacks in the past, that some how society is no longer fit to pass judgment on other forms of behavior. This society discriminates everyday. Rob a bank and you go to jail, no matter how much you feel justified in your actions since society didn't award you a golden spoon at birth. If a teacher has sex with a student, even if they are of consenting age, you go to jail, no matter how much you feel its "just sex" and its nobody' business. Society judges people and behavior all the time and will continue to do so and more times than not, rightfully so.
