Future pool 3

Anybody play anything? I haven't seen anything I really like so far. I played a few to win and a crazy exacta box throwing the Euros in, even though they have never won:bang:

Some people never learn;)

I like using the All Others option for exacta boxes. I covered Good Magic, Solomini, and McKinzie previously. I made sure to tackle Bolt this time. Also played the new Oaks/Derby double. All Others/Bolt @ 80-1

I played McKinzie and Justify in the win pool a little. Also played Bolt, Justify, McKinzie, and all others in an exacta box. Came back and did a 2 ex box Justify and McKinzie. Also played the Oaks-Derby Double and played :4::8::12:w:12::15:

I forgot I put a couple bucks on Combantant too who should finish around 50-1. Hopefully he can win the LA Derby and be in the gate.

I have Bolt covered in pool 1 with all others boxed as well as street sense/tapit/medaglia sires boxed - catholic boy, free drop, and solomini boxed with all others in pool 2 and took a wild stab yesterday in the oaks/derby double using 11,12,18 with 2,3,8. Yesterday the DD probables ranged from $42 to $4900. I will be going back to the Oaks today because I want to use Paved a little as long as she is still sitting around 20/1 to 30/1. She has been running turf races but for the price I am hoping she will get a dirt race or 2 under her belt and make the gate. Less than 20-1 I may just wait until May and see if she shows up.

Why is Bolt Doro, as of this writing, 5-1 and Mckenzie, who just beat him, 8-1?

I have $20 win on All. $10 win on 8, 9,16. Exacta box 3,8,9,16,23,24.

It was an 8.5F race and had it been longer Bolt would have crossed the line first regardless of the interference. I like both horses but didn’t expect Bolt to be that primed after the layoff and a couple training hiccups. The final raw time was a bit slow but I will ignore given track condition. The Equibase figure was highest since Equibase started using them in 1992. It was 10 points higher than Chrome. The last half panel was around 6.5 seconds which is solid. That race reminded me a little of the Sunday Silence and Easy Goer rivalry.

I was more impressed with McKenzie. Seemed that there was quite a lot of whipping going on from Castellano to Bolt......I was hoping Bolt would win the SA Derby, but now I probably won't bet him in that. Way too much effort in this race, IMHO.

Point taken but keep in mind McKinzie pretty much had a dream trip while Bolt was boxed in around the 6F pole then had to make his move wide. That was the type of move the wins the Derby.

Justify

The last 90 min of pool 3 are being dominated by "Justify" -

Just after his allowance win in race 5 at Santa Anita, he went from 11/1 ($12.887 bet) now down to 7/1 ($20,700 bet) -

That of course is putting some value back into the rest of the field (as an example, Bolt is up from 5/1 to now 6/1) -

Should be an interesting hour or so to the end.

Interesting, Justify finishes at 6-1, Bolt goes up to 7-1. McKinzie at 9-1.

He had the whole stretch to get by him and couldn't. Appears Mckenzie was pulling away at the end

“All Other 3-Year-Olds” has closed as the March future pool favorite in 13 of the last 16 years. The three exceptions were Mohaymen (7-2 in 2016), Uncle Mo (3-1 in 2011) and Pyro (4-1 in 2018). None won the Kentucky Derby.

Justify, who won his seven-furlong career debut on Feb. 18, is attempting to buck one of the last so-called Derby “rules” that is rarely challenged. Apollo, who won the 1882 Kentucky Derby, is the only Kentucky Derby winner to win the “Run for the Roses” without racing as a 2-year-old. The record of horses in the Derby without a race at 2 since 1937 is 61-0-3-5. During that span, the only horses to finish in the Derby Top 3 without racing at 2 were runner-ups Coaltown (1948), Strodes Creek (1994) and Bodemeister(2012) and third-place finishers Hampden (1946), Agitate (1974), Reinvested (1982), Curlin (2007) and Battle of Midway (2017).
