Sad day. One of the best ever.

Pretty much ruled the 70's - great band. :rip:

Great band. Love dueling guitars!

Read a story about the plane crash. The old Convair propeller plane was a piece of shit and shouldn't have even been flying. A few of the band members didn't want to fly on it, but Ronnie Van Zant made the call to go with it.
Aerosmith had been scheduled to use the same plane at an earlier date and rejected it.

The cover of their last album Street Survivors, released 3 days before the crash , had the ironic image of the band engulfed in flames, the record company recalled copies and replaced it with a new picture.

Another irony was that "Sweet Home Alabama" was their signature song, they were all from Florida.

I think this song really defines them:

Hate to beat a thread to death but I stumbled upon this and it is fascinating:

I cab still remember being out late that night. Partying. Came home to bed and on my little black and white TV the oldest, whitest guy on the planet came on with a bulletin ( Breaking News now ) He said the rock band Ly-nard Skynard died in a plane crash. Sad. I hope Neil Young remembered.
