"Extra! Extra! Cellozzi-Ettleson is havin' a sale"

"Lynn Burton here for Burt Wieman Ford........factory air just $2488 full delivered price"

I remember when Toys "R" Us was Bargain Town.

The original Sportmart was at Harlem and Dempster in Niles.

Man, those were the days.

At 3 in the morning when you're in bed, the Holsum bakers are baking bread. That is reason it tastes so good; like oven-fresh Holsum bread should.

Call 588-2300. Empire

Way back when......

Ah, yes....Chicagoland in the 60s

I remember...

My parents listening to Wally Phillips on the radio

WLS and WCFL (AM radio) being cool

Really annoying Culligan water softener commercials

Sinclair and Standard Oil gas stations

The first drive-thru I ever saw at a Jack-in-the-Box

I wonder when the Empire Carpet commercials started? Maybe early 70s? They even showed one in the movie "Wayne's World". The guy in the commercial died a couple years ago.

I saw the Wally Phillips reference. I remember my parents listening to him on WGN every morning. Kind of interesting who's on WGN radio now: Garry Meier and Jonathon Brandmeier. Both were fixtures at the Loop in the 80s, the hard rock/classic rock station. For those unfamiliar, Meier was the radio partner of Steve Dahl, who engineered the Disco Demolition night back in 1979.

Another old commercial reference: the Homemakers Furniture commercials, featured a then-unknown Shelly Long.

Lynn Hauldren was the carpet guy, think he was 90 or so when he died. They still run ads with his voice overs.

I once heard a clip of Wally Phillips calling someone in Louisville looking for a place to stay during the kentucky Derby, was invited to stay at somebodies home, and then he added 6 kids, a dog and a pet rabbit. Was a laffer.

A real blast from the past from you cats. Enjoyed all inputs.

Jackie Treehorn (me) wrote/produced jingles for several years. Me inspiration as a kid? Hudson Three- Two Seven Hundred.

Singing phone numbers. A lost art.

Tangential story. My sister was a writer for Bozo show for a brief period in the 70's. She's got some great stories.

During baseball season, after Bozo and before the Cubs' game, would be "The Leadoff Man". I remember they always ran commercials for Danley Garage.

Speaking of the Cubs, Vince Lloyd and Lou Boudreau were a great radio team.

Did anyone ever guess the name in Wally Phillips' little black box? I think Roy Leonard came on after Wally in the morning. I'd forgotten about Burt Wieman, your tv Ford man.

Holy Mackerel & Kiss it Goodbye, respectively. I always enjoyed Jack Brickhouse.

I bumped into Harry C at a restaurant in Indian Wells. He was in the bar havin' a belt. When two ladies from my table went to the head, he went over and opened the ladies bathroom door for 'em. We chatted for a while as he asked me about a woman mayor in Palatine. I didn't know who she was but I played along. Harrry.

Maybe the next PA get together should be where Adventure Land used to be. Remember how they used to advertise in every edition of the TV guide in the Sunday Trib?

I don't remember Adventure Land. I remember the place right across from Maywood Park. Was that Kiddie Land (sounds like Second Mile)? I also remember the Go Karts and batting cages right near Maywood.

How about Poplar Creek and Alpine Valley for concerts. I know Poplar was shut down around mid 80s or so. If Alpine Valley still has concerts, they don't promote them very well. And Tinley Park is too far away for a northern suburban person to go. Milwaukee is actually closer for me than Tinley.

Where Poplar Creek used to be is now a nice commecial/business development called Prairie Stone. It's where I work.

I've only lived in Chicagoland for about 10 years, so I can't speak for the old days, but I noticed that they are big with the radio ads, the jingles with the catchy tunes, and working in the phone number, etc. a lot of that old timey stuff is still around in one form or another.

Alpine Valley still has a few shows each summer. Dave Matthews Band does shows there every summer.

KiddieLand was across from Maywood. Bargain Town was close to that. Huge toy store that became Toy's R Us when Bargain Town's corporate bought that chain. Adventureland was a cool place to go. Dispnsa's was big, too. Only went once. Never went to their rides. Don't forget Dispensa was THE carnival midway all over Chicagoland every summer.
