Sad News- pktruckdriver has passed

One of our own, Patrick Kane - known around here as PKTruckDriver - has died.

My understanding is that he died from "numerous medical ailments" but mostly a blood infection.

PK was a long-time PA member and a dear friend of mine.

We - the brotherhood here on PA - did a fund raiser some years ago for PK when he was in a hospital recovering from an operation and was in dire straights.

In recent years he received a very large settlement from a trucking accident. That, and relocating to Guatemala to live with his sister, enabled him to live a quiet, peaceful life.

He'd actually earned quite a bit of money with his investments.

I, for one, will miss him.

MJC922 07-12-2022 05:13 AM

RIP. Sorry to hear about this. My stepdad died a few of months ago from similar as did my grandmother about a month ago. If I recall PK he went way back to when some of us were on usenet.

PaceAdvantage 07-12-2022 09:10 AM

Very sorry to read this Dave.

Patrick was quite the character around here for a good long while, but in the end, he was just a guy searching for a better way through this life despite the obstacles thrown his way (some self-imposed), much like the rest of us.

I think most here (including me), were always rooting for him no matter what.

I'm glad he found some peace and quiet in his later years, but am saddened to read he suffered once again, at the very end.

Rest in peace now Patrick.

Andy Asaro 07-12-2022 09:13 AM

Condolences. RIP

Well said. I met him at Saratoga and he couldn't have been a nicer guy. RIP big guy.

Tom 07-12-2022 11:35 AM

I'm am saddened by this news. Patrick was a great guy.
He came to Finger Lakes and spent a day with me and we had a really good time.
Like CJ said, nicest guy you ever met.

:rip: mt friend.

wisconsin 07-12-2022 12:31 PM

Wow, just sad. I was fortunate to meet up with him (and others) at Arlington. He is missed.

Ted Craven 07-12-2022 02:23 PM

Sorry to hear that Dave. I remember that fundraiser for Patrick. He came to a number of our Sartin meetups at Saratoga and elsewhere. Generally a goodhearted and generous guy, for sure.

Glad to hear he found the peace he was seeking in his later years, and thanks Dave for staying in touch with him.

Here is a photo he posted from 2011 where he participated as a Saratoga backstretch volunteer (big guy, lower right):

Actually, that 2011 Saratoga PaceandCap & PaceAdvantage Toga party combo meetup was one of the high-points of my Saratoga recollections. More photos of Patrick, and also several other PA members including Dave, 46zilzal, Al (?) and others.

Keep on truckin' down the road, my old friend, and thanks for the memories!

Same here. I too met him at a couple of the PA get-togethers. He even went to the after-the-races dinner one year. He was a good guy.

Zydeco 07-12-2022 07:14 PM

I remember him posting here....RIP truck driver.

JustRalph 07-12-2022 07:31 PM

Ted, thanks for posting that pic. He was an interesting guy for sure.

Thank you Dave for the info.

Ted, hope you are well!

Ted Craven 07-12-2022 09:25 PM

Ralph, thinking about Patrick today caused me to delve into my old cache of 'Toga photos - found a few of you as well, I think from that same year 2011? Our old friend is helping stimulate some fond memories, for which I am grateful.

Ted

46zilzal 07-12-2022 11:31 PM

Sorry to hear that. He was honest in his difficulties at first understanding the use of pace....Seemed like a nice fello with a bit of hard luck in his corner.

Driving a TRUCK is a very hard career, little sleep, bounced one's kidneys to death, bad food, LONG LONG hours. and if you were an owner/operator, it ws hard to make those HUGE truck payments, especially in the winter.

When I used to work for Allied and United Van Lines over the summer to earn tuition money, guys would go out to a job with us, climb up in the sleeper with the insructions to wake him when we had unloaded and set up the houshold.

Good times and good racing. I believe you’re right on the year. Sharing that week with your group was lots of fun.

Dave,

Thank you for posting this information.

I am very much saddened and sorry to hear of Patrick's passing.

It was not too long ago that I had the pleasure of meeting with Patrick for dinner at an Italian restaurant near my home in Boynton Beach Florida.
He was a likeable, pure and honest soul that had some very tough breaks in life. He had a strong desire to succeed at horse race handicapping and was an active participant in the sport that he loved so much.

He will surely be missed by those that knew him.

Patrick, rest in peace.

Tom 07-13-2022 02:55 PM

Seems like Patrick met a lot of people in the real world.

Red Knave 07-13-2022 05:45 PM

I'm very sad to read this also. Thanks, Dave, for posting this.

Patrick was one of the most open and genuine people I've ever met. We handicapped together in some PA contests and I met him with the Pace and Cap guys at 'Toga as well. He never stopped looking forward.

I find it slightly ironic that he reaped his best monetary rewards with the seeds from one of his misfortunes. Somehow it seems fitting.

RIP. It seems the good guys do go first.

Dave Schwartz 07-14-2022 10:49 AM

Today is Patrick's birthday

BTW, Today is Patrick's birthday.

Very sad to hear about this. RIP, PK

Just curious, does anyone know if Patrick was one of the original truck drivers mentioned in many an article about the Sartin early days? I was curious about that when his handle on usenet in the 90s had trucker in it and if I recall he seemed to be a follower of the methodology.

At the time I made the assumption just because it fit for the times but never got around to asking him. I do remember he was very enthusiastic about handicapping in those days and seemed to check in with the group regularly when he was on road trips. Have to love the people who bring that kind of enthusiasm. I will certainly remember him for that.

I don't believe he was old enough and if so he never mentioned it. I'd confidently bet no.

He was 59 - today.

No, he was not one of those truck drivers.

MJC922 07-15-2022 05:14 AM

Thanks guys. Wow, very young, again my condolences to his family and friends.

PaceAdvantage 07-15-2022 10:32 AM

tbwinner 07-15-2022 07:32 PM

RIP Pktruckdriver aka Patrick Kane. I remember meeting him at the 2012 Arlington meetup. He was very kind and, like all of us, in the forever search of the next winner. I remember him lighting up for me on some W2G signer I hit at AP and speaking on and off again every so often after the meetup. I know he had his challenges as we all do, but he was a racetracker brother whom you always rooted for.

I'm trying to track down some photos from the outing, thought I had them on Facebook but can't seem to see.

Here is one I found. He really had a liking for Jessica Pacheco and was absolutely fanatical over her :)

Jeff P 07-15-2022 08:33 PM

Very sorry to hear about his passing.

Every time we talked he called me Boss.

Two things I'm sure of: He was a good man and a Horseplayer.

Deep down I believe there's an afterlife. If so, when a horseplayer goes to heaven they let you win most of the photos.

Rest in Peace Patrick,

-jp

RIP PT Truck Driver

lamboguy 07-18-2022 08:51 AM

Dave Schwartz put me in touch with him 10 years ago when he was in the hospital. i spoke to him everyday for about 2 years to try to help him with his weight problem and insulin levels. i sent him a supplement called INSEA2 that helped him lower his insulin and he lost about 50 pounds in less than 2 months. he was a terrible eater with very bad habits, but a real nice guy that didn't have a bad bone in his body.

for anyone interested in this supplement this is a small write-up about it.

Never met him in person, but recall speaking to him on the phone one time about handicapping and life issues. He was passionate about wanting to become a winning horseplayer.

RIP Patrick
