Philly Park

Me and my wife would like to try Philly Park, casino and racing we are coming from the Long Island Ny area.Is it worth the trip?Is it a nice track or is it a dive? Can we do it in a day or is it too far to do a day trip?

Go a little further and hit Delaware Park.

JWBurnie's correct: the temporary Philly casino is a dump. Keep heading south on 95 and head to DelPark which is lovely, for horsemen and slots players alike.

Been there. Can't say anything good about it.

The problem is that it's all about the slots at Philly Park, Rolling. The horseplayers are stuck on the 5th floor and nobody sits in the grandstand seats up there anymore.

But I will say this. You can get a nice seat at a table in the restaurant up there with a TV in the terraced area where you get a great view of the racetrack. Or you can sit at a table in the same restaurant above the terraced area with one or two TV's at your table which is much closer to the tellers in the restaurant but you must walk a few steps to see the races live up there.

In both sections you can request a PIN machine (it's free) and make your bets without getting up. It's a great setup for playing simulcast races as you control the stations (and therefore the races being shown) and volume on your TV so you can watch whatever track you want being simulcast.

I used to go to Philly Park a lot but smoking is banned on the 5th floor there now so I play at home mostly. (I'm still pissed that smoking is allowed on the first floor of the slots casino but horseplayers can't smoke on the 5th floor. )

I wouldn't do the drive in one day if at all possible.

Wow! I used to make that trip to Philly every day from Suffolk County Long Island. I would leave my house at 2:30am and hit the kitchen on the backside by 5:15am. Stay all day until the races were over and head back through all that traffic. I would get home by 7:00pm to 8:00pm on race days. This went on for about 6 months. On top of it, my rider had a tendency to take off many mornings. Very lazy and couldn't get out of the bed. He lived 5 minutes from the track. Can you imagine? Anyway, I think Delaware would be the thread topic's best bet.

Drive up to Saratoga for a day of racing instead and afterwards head over to the harness track and play the slots (and trotters there).

Or if u still want to drive to the area you could go to Harrah's Chester which is pretty much miles away from Philly.
