I was alive in the pick four with a seven to one and a twenty-one to one in the first two legs. I was alive to just two horses in that 5th race you are mentioning so I watched it intently. Prado's horse was one of them. Not sure what he was thinking. he went out too fast and then completely blew the clubhouse turn. I thought i was finished.....threw my hands into the air.....but the other back up was a first time starter that snuck through a hole and won it for me. I was delighted! Got half of 5200 on a small $22 ticket. Sometimes i would rather be lucky than good. Feel very fortunate.

This was a race for two year olds.

In my experience, usually when a horse bolts it is a sign of a soreness issue. Weirdest bolt I've ever seen just happened August 6th in the 5th race at Fort Erie. Imperial Alydeed, a former allowance horse dropped in for 5k, had a good lead going into the far turn and bolted to the outside fence....and still won the race.
Must have been a good outside fence bias that day.

The stangest bolt for me was Giant Chieftan last Summer at Saratoga. His shadow spooked him 10 yards or so from the finish line. He had just got the lead and looked like the clear winner. All my wagers got spooked too.

Unity looked like he may have been injured but who knows with two year olds.

Maybe some YouTube wizard can post a link to the 1986 Pennsylvania Derby of Broad Brush. THAT'S the bolt I'll always remember.

i had a Prado ridden horse get nosed on sunday 6th o7th race, 9 horse. Singled for the p4, and Hill (2 for 72)came up the inside and out huslteled him for the win. At times Prado seems to try to just nip the other horse at the wire, what i call a "finesse ride". I hate that , it was a 35K claimer race , so maybe he wasnot motivated as much as Hill. I would not call it a stiff ride, but it really bugged me,as his horse was much the best and he got outridden. I like Edgar and think he is a super jock, but I guess he fell asleep on this one. Sort of like a ball player not running out a ground ball where if he hustled he would have had a hit.

The bolt I remember was done by a horse named Private Practice at Saratoga. He was running in an infamous, "Do not adjust your set, this is NOT the sixth at the Finger Lakes," finale, going two turns on dirt, and looked to be the lone speed. I got him at around 9-2 or 5-1 or so, and indeed, he'd cleared the field in about five jumps. Then they hit the turn, and he, well, DOESN'T TURN! Just runs dead straight, making no attempt to turn left. It was incredible. I remember wondering why they didn't run him in QH races at Los Alamitos. :bang:

Funny you mention him. WAs on track for his ,what ? 5000th this meet and they had the usual placard and photo in the winners circle. They announced the photo etc. with all his fellow riders etc. I put up the binocs , only to see one other jock and all the others were valets for the historic photo. Joey is truly loved !
