Paul George to the Thunder (and now Melo too!)

Supposedly the Celtics were offering three (non lottery) 1st round draft picks, Jae Crowder (who has a team friendly deal through 2020) and Avery Bradley for George.Bit of a head scratcher as to why the Pacers took the OKC deal.Oladipo is a good player with an expensive contract:if Sabonis lives up to his projections that will make the deal a little more palatable but it's still a big if.

Supposedly to keep him out of the Eastern conf

They also like Oladipo because he played at Indiana. I think that is pretty silly on the pro level, but that is what is being said.

That's what I figured but are the Pacers even going to make the playoffs? The only way that would be a concern would be if George signed a long term deal with the Celtics which could happen. The Celtics were a # 1 seed with a # 1 overall draft choice and enough cap space to hand out a max contract plus they have multiple first round picks over the next few years. That's a pretty rare alignment of the NBA planets.Boston traded Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Nets, a team in their own division. And got draft picks 4 or 5 years down the road as Danny Ainge knew the Celtics needed a rebuild and he figured any Nets success would be short lived given the ages of their stars, although I think even he was surprised at how quickly they fell apart. The point being, sometimes you gotta roll the dice and go against the conventional wisdom.

He shoots a bit too many 'long-twos', but he's been playing at a high enough level, that he's been able to overcome that.

Last year he took 6.6 3s and hit 39%, and was above 50% for his 2s for the first time in a full season.
He had flashes of brilliance.

Add Carmelo Anthony to the list. No idea how this will work out, but giving up Kanter and McDermott is pretty irrelevant, so nothing to lose taking a shot.

wow!

Hope some of Westbrook's intensity rubs off on these two guys. Should be entertaining.

From the Knicks perspective:

I definitely like Kanter, but the Knicks will be once again -- in the fight for the number one draft pick. I mean who pays so much money to buy tickets at MSG?

I think it's safe to say that half those season ticket holders are corporate/ millionaire types out to impress their clients/ friends.Chump change to them.

I will be betting OKC under for total season wins. This is a clear case of subtraction by addition.

Forbes has the Knicks estimated at the highest NBA franchise ~3.3B , for whatever that's worth.

The Knicks make little effort to develop, or even to buy a high quality on-court basketball product.

The effort that they do make involves media and marketing (such as using Phil Jackson and Melo in their media effort).

The current Knicks ownership almost seems to derive pleasure from flaunting the Knicks great market position, and the fact that they don't rely on on-court quality to generate revenue value.

They got rid of two guys that were going to play that can't guard a statue in exchange for a guy who is a perfect 4 in today's NBA. Melo has one more shot at a good contract and he won't get it by playing selfish this year.
