those days were certainly a great era for boxing. the Hagler-Leonard fight probably should have been a draw. i believe Hagler quit after the fight.

You remember Fernando Vargas? I worked on his limousine, his people dropped it off. It was right before the first Shane Mosley fight. I forgot the betting
line, I should have drove to Las Vegas and bet every penny I had against him, I was thinking about it. I had never seen so much garbage inside a limousine in my life. Empty booze bottles, candy wrappers, potato chip bags, etc, etc.
I was shocked he made it into the 10th round before the fight was stopped.
He was in his late 20's, so at that age you can get away will not treating your body so well, but the smaller guys seem to age out faster as it seems the speed starts going long before the power does.
I actually met Ken Norton before his fight with Ernie Shavers, he was training in San Jacinto Ca, his handlers wanted him away from the lures of the big city. He was still able to find plenty of booze and women out there. He was an impressive looking physical specimen but had that damn glass jaw.
I was bummed when Shavers knocked him out in the first round. He was nailing a woman in my apartment complex.
