Random match race poll who wins AP or SB?

Distance: 1 mile and 1/16th
Track: Santa Anita
Contestants: American Pharoah vs Shared Belief
Both horses presumably in their 3 year old prime.

WHO WINS?

AP had more speed.

AP never stepped foot on a track with anything like Shared Belief. I'll agree that from a gate to wire perspective AP had more overall speed. But Shared Belief could get it done more ways than AP. If you watch what Mike Smith did in the 2015 San Antonio aboard Shared Belief you get a good idea of how this might turn out.

I was a huge Shared Belief fan. That was a devastating loss. :(

However, I suspect AP would have just run him off his feet in most races unless the pace got really hot or the track was tiring. IMO, American Pharoah was just "starting" to get really good when his career ended.

Maybe I'm wrong. I would have loved to have seen them square off. That's for sure.

8.5f??

Shared Belief, if he fires a big one...

AP didn't strike me as 'brilliant' so much as that he combined perfection of fundamentals with not tiring like other horses. AP definitely wasn't slow in any form or fashion, he just didn't strike me as 'brilliant'.

Now, that's my opinion from memory. I didn't do any work for this post.

Match race: first one out of the gate. Cat and mouse just like almost EVERY match race this century or those "match races within a race" (Alydar/Affirmed. SS/Easy Goer, Affirmed/Spectacular Bid, etc.)

In a field of horses: speed usually gets it done, particularly at 8.5...How much early pace pressure would make a world of difference as well.

A P most likely...but not at different distances....but if both are Peaking at the same time it might just be who gets a better start out of the gate even at the mile and sixteenth...lol...and who is the bigger ' hands ' high etc horse....lol....

AP VS SB

Loved them both;

better thought would be to have a match race between both trainers;

guess you get my drift.
