Windows Update problems
 

windows 10 gave me an update yesterday and since then I'm having all sorts of problems....nothing will open from taskbar, can't save any download where I want to, save button basically doesn't work, and can't extract correctly either....

I'm uninstalling any windows update from yesterday, see what happens.

I got it fixed. I went into Control Panel and deleted the windows updates that came in yesterday. Hopefully by the time Windows automatically updates again, it won't happen again.

i would turn off all updates...they dont do much but slow it down

Some of the problems are coming back, can't use the back arrow on web pages, can't bring up webpages that are on the taskbar. Weird.

When you'd mentioned problems, I was using Linux. I changed over to Windows 10 and did the updates. (I'd read previously that there was an important update coming in July and reading your post reminded me of it) No Problems whatsoever. Other than very long time, 20 mins or 25 mins it took to complete the operation. Seems very stable now, as it was before. I do prefer Linux, but keep Windows 10 alongside in a dual-boot arrangement. There is One, repeat One program I need Windows for, and that is a game.

Windows is confusing to me now, as opposed to Linux. With 2 keypresses and a password entry, my updates are done! As I update DAILY in Linux, it can be started and done with in less than 2 minutes, on average. When a kernel update occurs, that time is slightly longer. (Changing to a new kernel is the only operation that still requires a reboot) I might add that most Linux updates do NOT require a reboot. Isn't that special? ps I'd read that even the kernel upgrades will in the future eliminate the need for a reboot!

you might have to a system restore to a certain date...and then TURN OFF UPDATES

Wow, I did a system restore and it didn't fix every thing. Although now the only problem seems to be Google Chrome, which I can live without.

I spoke too soon, same problems with Firefox now, can't use back arrow, windows won't open from taskbar.

Did you try to uninstall Chrome....Reboot PC and then reinstall

In the settings .....look for Set back to defaults

I tried everything. Microsoft's customer service let me reinstall windows 10 and it didn't fix problems. Weird.
