I don't find that nearly the same. This was just pretty smart race riding.

Had Leparoux ridden the race like he had confidence in the horse's ability, he wouldn't have been in that spot in the first place.

That's not an unreasonable argument had El Padrino won then I might agree. Clearly Leparoux was not taking any chances with Union Rags whether it was trainer instruction or Jockey error who knows.

El Padrino didn't win because he wasn't good enough, not because of the tactics the riders used.
