Unless this guy is truly mentally ill, it would be nice to see his punishment include 100 hours of community service working at the local animal shelter.

I have owned a cat or two most of my life. I don't understand people who flat out hate them. A lady 3/4 of a mile from me feeds feral cats, this infuriates my nearest neighbor 1/4 mile away. The houses here are probably 4 to the square mile and it is heavily wooded. Those cats don't hang out anywhere near my neighbors property he only sees them when he drives down the road.

I don't get it either. People think that charity should only be for humans. Newsflash. I can do both.

For my wife and I, cats are way-beyond pets.......they are FAMILY!

Currently have 4 who are between 9 and 10 years old. Have had as many as 6 at one time. Will probably add 2 more when the timing is right. All are 100% indoors as it would be too dangerous to let them outside in the populated area we live in. As I type this, Skipper (Skippy) the all black male who is currently pictured in my Avatar is resting on the recliner chair between my legs. I would estimate that he takes up this position about 80% of the time I am using this particular recliner. When I am not in the recliner he sometimes waits on the floor beside it, waiting for "daddy" to arrive. All of the other kitties have different traits and behaviors, but joining me in this chair is not one of them.

It is so nice to have his company while I work on my laptop and/or watch racing or the local sports teams on TV. These are some of the times that makes one a cat lover for life!

BTW you would think that after all these years one would get tired of doing so, but it is a joy to interact multi-hours each and every day with our special cat family!! :jump:

The cat I have now is 7. She is a 1/2 Siamese I got from a shelter. She got sick as a kitten within hours after I brought her home, most cats that had what she did don't make it. $500 vet bill and force feeding her milk 10x a day for a month saved her. Then I spent $300 on various types of food to try to get her to eat. She was lucky I was self employed working from home so I could give her 24-7 care. To this day she will only eat food that is $20 for a small bag and wants it fresh out of the bag 10 times a day. She pees on my bath mats and in my dirty laundry basket. She chewed the corners off my coffee table. She likes lay on my desk on top of whatever paperwork I am doing. If I close her out of the office she beats on the door until I give in.
In the summer time when I sleep with no covers or socks she bites my feet and it wakes me up and I am an insomniac. She also throws up at least two times a week, and always on the carpet.

I have probably had a dozen cats in my 56 years on this planet and Rocket is probably more trouble than all the others combined. Not very grateful for the fact that I saved her life. I looked at a bunch of cats at the shelter and picked her. As a man of my word I own my decision and make the best of it. I have quite a few health problems lately and girlfriend said I need to live at least another 8 years for that cat as if I go so does she. I don't think my girlfriend got over the fact the cat peed on her expensive tennis shoes and even climbed up on a shelf to do it.

You're a good man. I had a dachshund named Skip, who had many health problems. I never minded one bit having to care for him, no matter the expense or time needed out of my day. At the age of 18, when dementia took over, he became blind, and was already deaf , I couldn't bear to see him suffer anymore, I had to have him euthanized. It was done at my home , so he wouldn't have to go through the stress of the trip to the veterinary clinic. When I hear the song" Mr BoJangles" and it comes to the part that says "after 20 years he still grieves", I think of me and how I will feel for the rest of my life about my beloved Skip.

I had a cousin who always owned Dachsunds. I think they were the reason the term "dog breath" was invented. Not sure if it was common to the breed or what she would feed them.

I am not a pet person, my ex wife would bring home dogs and cats and then not take care of them.
Finding good homes for them was easy, because she always got animals with papers from reputable breeders.
I even had to get rid of a couple of thoroughbreds.

When I gave them away I always let the new owners know that if they ever decided that they didn't want them, to
let me know so that I can find new owners.

My daughter has 6 cats and 2 dogs.
For some reason all of them along with my granddaughter like to climb on me whenever I visit.
I just let them all do as they please.

That was a big deal here locally. The guy has a criminal record. Surprise surprise..

This was esp disgusting, packs of dogs and coyotes etc roam all over that area. That animal was lucky to survive.

My wife and I go back and forth on this subject. I tell her my dogs are my grandkids, they mean that much to me. Like a lot of people she doesn't understand...too bad. Dogs are cool, end of story.

What she would feed them and also poor dental care given to the dog by the owner.

I paid little attention to animals until I found an orange kitten in a garbage-can near my place of business, about 10 years ago. Unable to give it to anybody else, I hesitatingly took it home...and Mickey and I have been together ever since. He got seriously sick about a year ago, and I took him late at night to a nearby animal hospital. As we were there waiting for someone to help us...a nurse came into the waiting room and told me that we would have to wait a little longer than normal for service because they were dealing with an emergency in the next room. A dog had been brought to the animal hospital, with an illness that couldn't be cured. After a while, with my cat taken away for x-rays, I took a careful peek into the next room...where I saw a family of 4 hugging themselves and sobbing, as a large dog lay motionless on the floor in front of them. The emotion that I felt is impossible to explain.

My own cat was treated as an outpatient, and he was released a short while later. And, as I was driving home with him looking at me from the adjacent seat, I thought about the role that pets play in our lives...and how despicable are those who abuse or abandon these helpless, wonderful creatures...who give us so much, for so little.

I could never understand those who say that they care more about animals than they do about human beings. But I understand them now...and my cat Mickey is to blame.

All great reading for this animal lover. I've done the crazy like stopping traffic to get a baby bird out of the road. Animals are wonderful and I could never be without a dog. My pets have brought a lot to my life, and I do envision that heaven for me will be all of my pets greeting me one day.
