The Kim and I

kingfin66 03-08-2018 09:13 PM

I'll believe it when I see it. He does not deserve to meet with the POTUS. That would be something that Obama would do.

davew 03-08-2018 10:09 PM

I wonder if they will discuss 0bama and Kerry's secret plan to give them $100 billion in cash to move their (and Iran's) nuclear bomb program to another country?

POTUS is upgrading his meeting attendees.....from Upchuckie and Nancy to Rocket Man.:pound:

Too early to tell, but Lil' Kim might be a wee bit on the scared side thing Trump is a madman who will blow him away.

Probably another lame attempt at getting a lot of foreign aid and then not delivering, but I think this one might turn into something. The world knows we no longer have a sniveling coward in the White House drawing pink lines in the sand.

JustRalph 03-08-2018 11:48 PM

If Kim acts up after meeting with Trump....

Trump gets Carte Blanche. He can say he tried everything, and then blow their ass off the map......

chadk66 03-09-2018 08:57 AM

masterful move.

Tom 03-09-2018 09:28 AM

I wonder if Dung Pyle is following Trump on Twitter?

Gets media away from stupid shit like banging porn stars and personal bs about his family. I don't think much will come out of it. Kim loves the attention he draws being an overblown clown. Trump will report back that he's met with the clown and that he's indeed a clown.
Whats troubling is Kim has the ability to do real harm to neighboring countries. If he doesn't agree to curb his expansion with nukes, Ralph could be right about his fate. Communist military states shouldn't exist in the 21st century anyway. If they're a threat, remove them.

This line of Trump's from the Gridiron dinner is great:

I won't rule out direct talks with Kim Jong Un. I just won't. As far as the risk of dealing with a madman is concerned, that's his problem, not mine. ...

President Trump has agreed to sit down with his North Korean nemesis Kim Jong Un sometime in the next two months to discuss stripping the hermit nation of its nuclear arsenal, it was announced Thursday.
From the White House:
Quote:

At this point we’re not even talking about negotiations, right? What we’re talking about is an invitation by the leader of North Korea to meet face to face with the President of the United States. The President has accepted that invitation.
From the Secy of State:
Quote:

“We are a long ways from negotiations,” Tillerson said. “We need to be very clear-eyed and realistic about it. I think the first step, and I’ve said this before, is to have talks, to have some kind of talks about talks.”

PaceAdvantage 03-09-2018 01:44 PM

And they jump right to leader vs. leader talks, instead of some lower level State Department BS...I like it...

One of the things I really like and admire about Trump is that he has shown time and again that he's the heavyweight champ of DC politics -- contrary to what the lamestream thinks about him. In fact...I'd compare to him to the late, great Muhammad Ali in the boxing world. The main reason Ali was so successful against his opponents is that he kept them on their heels -- he kept them guessing. And this is what Trump does, and he excels at implementing this strategy. He's always a few steps ahead of his opponents because he knows how to keep them guessing. Donald Trump is the master of rope-a-dope politics. :coffee:

President Clinton wanted to travel to North Korea during his 2nd term, but just ran out of time because he got stuck in Middle East business.

Because Trump wants to do it though, it's a "madman" strategy.

Lower lever talks get you lower level results.:ThmbUp:

When N Korea held those two American girls hostage, Bill Clinton flew over to successfully negotiate their release.
One the Air Force jet back home, Clinton was sitting alone in the back of the plane, head in hand, looking worried.

"Cheer up, sir!"
"They are free. You have nothing to worry about."

"Hillary!" replied Clinton.
"I haven't been home for three days. She'll flip out on me.

"But sir, just tell her what you did. I'm sure she'll understand."

"You don't understand." said Clinton.
"That's what I told her LAST weekend!"

Geopolitically, this has been interesting to watch.

All sides have played their hands well so far.

You think, huh? I wonder if Trump knows that Kim also wrote a book? It's called "The Art of Total[itarian] BS". :coffee:

I'm sure Trump is aware that this is posturing. He shouldn't have made the meeting comment as they are already walking that back but he knows this is all posturing. What the North is going to offer isn't particularly surprising to anyone who looks at the Clinton handling of the regime.

The US has done a good job of isolating and ratcheting up pressure on the North forcing them to act.

The North has done a very good job of working some room to maneuver through their talks with the South as well as some successful flights that give them some credibility and leverage.

The South was able to host a good Olympic games. Garner lots of international admiration. Stock up capital and play the role of deal broker.

All sides get decent marks so far...

I, too, am certain of one thing: Unlike Trump's predecessors he knows Kim cannot be trusted.

North Korea was relatively quiet until the "Axis of Evil" speech.

Same for Iran at the time...

That speech was the neo-con coming out party.

Nice deflection. So...Bush brought out the evil in the NK totalitarian state? NK wasn't an evil regime until Bush pissed them off? Ditto questions for Iran, too.
Bush made North Korean and Iran evil nations?

Meanwhile...Slick Willy exasperated the situation in North Korea and lied through his teeth about it to the entire world, telling everyone the world is a safer place because of the deal he made with NK. The Slickster actually became NK's enabler.

Clocker 03-09-2018 05:42 PM

I don't know what you are talking about here...

I agree with you that he was dumb to trust them. Was just pointing out the Axis of Evil speech that really exacerbated the situation and prompted their rapid race to nuclearization.

PaceAdvantage 03-09-2018 06:20 PM

Couldn't have just been coincidental timing?

But you're right...north Korea probably would never have pursued nuclear weapons if Bush would have just kept his damn mouth shut...:pound:

Cuz that's what I said... ;)

Nobody has ever really trusted the North Koreans. Not even Clinton... they knew the deal was shit... but it shut them up.

This is more a case of Boxcar just looking to argue with me even when I agree with him. Except for talking about the meeting... Trump shouldn't have done that. That was bad move but can easily be explained away.
