Space-x launch

Watched this live today........

Incredible stuff with the two reusable rockets landing together

Nerdy as hell.....but I loved it

PaceAdvantage 02-06-2018 04:55 PM

Yeah...was pretty awe-inspiring watching that, for some reason.

What happened to the center section? That was supposed to return as well, but camera went out...did it come back AOK?

"After the live video transmission cut out, someone from the control room audio feed could be heard saying, “We lost the center core.”

It’s unclear if this means that the center core crashed, or if SpaceX simply lost radio contact with it — but the fact that SpaceX hasn’t yet released an update suggests that it wasn’t a happy ending. We’ll update this post with new information as it becomes available."

And here's the video of the centercore landing near the end of this clip. It's the same as I saw on the live feed at the time. Looks like it just missed to the right.

The center core crashed into the ocean about 300 feet from the drone ship:

Quote:

Speaking at a news conference after the launch, Musk said the centre core of the rocket was lost after it smashed into the ocean near the landing pad.

"The centre core hit water at 300 miles per hour (482km/h) and took out two of the engines of the drone ship," Musk said.

"If we got the footage ... that sounds like some pretty fun footage if the cameras didn't get blown up as well, then we'll put that up ... for - you know - just the blooper reel," he said.

"The rocket landed about 100 metres away from the landing pad, which was enough to take out two thrusters and shower the deck with shrapnel," Musk added.

Yes, I read that later. Musk said it ran out of repellent after coming back from a long distance. Nice try though and a learning experience for SpaceX.
