I think some of these drivers are helped by the slanted gate. For instance, Palone drives exclusively at the Meadows, which has the slanted gate, which makes it much easier to leave from the outside. Jason Bartlett, who in my opinion is as good as anyone at leaving, races almost exclusively at Yonkers, which is a very difficult track to leave from the outside. If Bartlett raced at the Meadows his number would be much higher. If you notice. if all the drivers that race on a half mile track, Bartlett has the best percentage. The track size makes a huge difference, as does the slanted gate.

Good stats overall, though.

Ray, have you ever posted stats on first time lasix, or horses that are using lasix as opposed to not using lasix?

Some Lasix data from 2017 can be found here.

That's a good point about the slanted gate. That was the gate's original purpose, to make drivers more aggressive.

Track size is very important.

I just did some research for DeanT on track size - Quarter pole leaders, shown below in attachment 1.

I also looked at the results if the tote would let me bet the quarter pole leader to win.(shown in attachment 2)
Races only covered from Feb 19, 2019 to date and Pompano is skewed by a $161 winner.

The question I was trying to answer is :
How accurate do I have to be in predicting the Quarter Pole leader in order to break even on betting him?
I'll omit the details but it turns out I would need to be right 71% of the time.

I'm building a robot right now to see if it can get close to 70% predicting the 1/4 pole calls.

I'm going to make an attempt to predict this tonight at Western Fair. I will explain what I did in the actual thread.
