I own a piece of a First Defence mare that has Buckpasser on the bottom of her pedigree. She is due to throw her 2nd foal this spring.

f2tornado 02-16-2019 11:32 PM

The El Camino winner is female family 23-b (I'll Have Another, Bodemeister, Mine That Bird, Lil E Tee, Winning Colors, Affirmed). Also a Buckpasser-x. He looked good winning but that is also a revelation of his competition. I look forward to seeing how this one goes on dirt against more formidable foes. He's already punched his ticket to the Preakness.

how do I check this information on the mares I own? thanks

Musket Man 02-17-2019 12:02 PM

94 speed fig fits w/all of the PREP races thus far

PowerUpPaynter 02-17-2019 03:12 PM

They want 2 races before the Derby. Oaklawn seems to be the logical spot timing wise...

I don't like Anothertwistafate's damside pedigree for dirt. It's filled with European runners.

One example is Nebraska Tornado, the half-sister to Anothertwistafate's dam Imprecation. She made every start except one on turf in Europe. Her final career start came in the 2004 Breeders' Cup Distaff, and she failed to hit the board.

Anothertwistafate's second dam Media Nox started her career in Europe, before coming to Santa Anita and winning the Buena Vista on turf in her final start.

This is a turf family.

I like using this site to search pedigrees.

ANOTHERTWISTAFATE (USA) dkb/br. C, 2016 {23-b} DP = 7-1-6-2-0 (16) DI = 2.20 CD = 0.81

I bolded the female family in brackets. Family 1 (particularly 1-x) and 23-b have been quite successful in the Derby. Note last year's winner Justify is a 1-h. I've seen a number of solid horses with 17-b as well (think Gun Runner). Buckpasser-x horses (via a daughter of Buckpasser on dam side) posting fast closing fractions in the 9F preps have been astounding hitting the board. I'll credit Stanley Caris for discovering that tidbit. He's posted here in the past.

This makes the three most well bet future pool plays so tantalizing. All have Buckpasser-x. Game Winner and Hidden Scroll have the premier female families. Plus, the 2019 preps have been won by slow horses so far.

GAME WINNER (USA) b. C, 2016 {1-x} DP = 3-6-10-1-0 (20) DI = 2.33 CD = 0.55

HIDDEN SCROLL (USA) b. C, 2016 {23-b} DP = 5-7-14-0-0 (26) DI = 2.71 CD = 0.65

IMPROBABLE (USA) ch. C, 2016 {16-h} DP = 12-9-13-0-0 (34) DI = 4.23 CD = 0.97

My mares are 9-f, 16, 9-f and 8-c

Is going to try dirt for next start, wasn't even nominated for the Jim Beam (whatever it is called this days! ;))

rastajenk 02-22-2019 06:29 PM

It's the Jeff Ruby Steaks. :faint:

But it will always be the Jim Beam to me.

MooseDog 03-05-2019 10:37 PM

Jim Beam is easier to remember and easier to say than

The Jeff Ruby Steaks Stakes.

Just listened to an interview with Blaine Wright. His charge got bumped off the derby points list. Therefore he's decided to run him in the Lexington Stakes. His rider there will be Javier Castellano.
