Horses weights & the Stronach group...

http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com...orses-weights/

Stronach...for all the grief they catch...and MUCH deservedly so....this is FINALLY a good thing to be done FOR the bettor...

As I posted to another here in PM....(same person gave me the heads-up on the Stronach group plans...very nice)....plus years ago here...

If you knew a horse lost 100lbs between races and was favored....and the race was only 2 weeks later...wouldn't you BET AGAINST with BOTH hands...ie....the famous example are Super Savior...from Kenutucky Derby winner to Preakness zero....

There ARE MANY more....but THOSE facts are HIDDEN from the bettor....good luck if you can get THAT info..

Meanwhile in Dog racing...if a Dog loses 3 lbs between races...won't be allowed to run...

You can do the math yourself....and of course realize...lost weight DOES indeed matter....

Thanks for the heads up and about time. Sharp post.

Seriously, you do know scales have to be calibrated and verified, right?
Would you take a weight taken by a track that obviously is not capable of timing a race, knowing how long a run up is, or even placing the gate at the right distance?

A 100 or so pounds would, IMHO be well within the margin of error for any race track operating today.

Ideas are good things.
Implementation is a whole other kettle of fish.

They give these at Remington on race day, but you have to write them down and store them for when the horses return. From my experience changes in weight are not nearly as predictive as some seem to think. I'm all for giving players all the information they can have, so not knocking it one bit. I'm saying I wouldn't rush out and buy a new boat anticipating profits from this angle.

Advocating for tracks never doing anything new

Really, that's your response? No basis in fact about whether it's good or bad for bettors, just a blanket condemnation of racetracks, so don't bother with anything new. Could you at least wait until you have a basis to criticize the accuracy of any weights?

I'm going to assume this isn't aimed at me, but I'll add I'd rather they get the stuff right that they give us currently before adding more to the plate. The 1st time gelding thing sounded great in theory but in reality it is a disaster. How about getting that fixed first. I won't even start with the bad timing.

You'd think there would be an app where you could take your smartphone to the paddock, snap a shot and have a rough estimate of things like: hands high, stride length, weight, hoof size, etc. I am guessing either paddock personalities are suppressing this technology or no one smart enough to do such a thing cares about horse racing.

Great ideas.
How about a DMV linked app showing what type of cars the various "expert" handicappers drive?

I'm going to assume it is aimed at me.
I will state that race tracks have proven themselves over and over to be incompetent to get things right.

Timing races is a joke. Run up distance, as CJ showed this week can be a MAJOR factor and is handled like a moron handles fire crackers. Some tracks can't even get the distance to run right! TWICE!

I would say that is evidence to assume they will screw this up, too.
And just how will you know if the weights are correct or not?
New things are not the idea - things done RIGHT is all that matters.
Right now, the tracks have lot to do before they even think about adding things.

Problem is, the tracks DO NOT care about the average players. Period.

As to whether or not it is good for the player is not my call to make.
You have to do that.

Forget this one.

There's the axiom in horse racing.....If you ain't successful, you'd better damn sure look it.

sammy the sage 07-09-2018 08:42 PM

Well for those of you who don't think it matters...I'm certainly GLAD that you're in the pools...now give me some negative rep. for THAT comment as well...:pound::lol:

Tom 07-09-2018 08:47 PM

Sammy, I hope you use all the wrong weights to good advantage!
In fact, if I were you, I would UNLOAD!

You could be right...I do think some of the OTHER issues are intentional

What...conspiracy theory...say it ain't so...

However...on this topic...pretty sure what you will see...are horses that shouldn't be running...actually WON'T...because of THE public scrutiny...and honestly....there will be no betting advantage...

Getting fixed the first time gelding?

Nice unintentional pun there!
