Ohio Bred MSW. Slowest Race Ever Possible

Race #1 today at Mahoning Valley should be an easy one to watch and be called by Matt Hook. Picking the winner not so easy. 6 horses are entered in the 6 Furlong MSW race for Ohio Breds. One each are 3,4,6 and 7 years old, Two are 5 years old. The 3 year old has raced twice, finishing last in both races. The Favorites are a combined 0 for 32. #1 (the 7 year old) is trained by a 5% Trainer in 2020-21 and ridden by a 4% Jockey. #2 is Conditioned by a 2% Trainer and has a 3% Rider. Two other Trainers have zero wins in a combined 31 races in 2020-21. The racing surface should be fast, if not frozen or this race had the potential of being run in 1:17 to 1:19.

They went 1:21.04 one day a few years ago (2/10/2016). Tough to beat.

They went 1:15.8 in the slop and snow.

They "met or exceeded expectations." :p

Or at least one of them did.

Decades ago, When DRF published National Charts Weekly, or whatever it was called, I used to look for the slowest race of the week based on Beyer Speed Figures, and usually the slowest winning Beyer was about 12.

5 other 6 furlong races were run. The final times ranged from 1:12.01 to 1:12.84. A 3 second difference from Race 1. Like Tom Brady racing Tyreek Hill in a 100 yard dash.

That is the slowest 6f race in my database, and MVR also has the 2nd and 5th slowest.

Just curious, what was the figure?

Winner got a 69, but only a 56 final time, big pace upgrade. Actually came back and won next out with an 83 (74 final time).

Beyer gave a 30 for that day, 58 next time out.

When DRF first printed the Beyers, we had a lot of horses at FL with 0 for a figure. We called then Beyer Bagels.:D

I've seen state bred maiden claimers at place like Hoosier and Indiana that were sub zero as well, and the track didn't even have to be slow!

About 15 years ago I read that Sam Houston was the only track where a winning horse had a zero Beyer. Don't know if its true though.

I’ve seen this figure before: -0
I think I read that that designates a negative Beyer

It does, you just don't know how - it is.

It should be noted that the race under discussion was restricted to "accredited" runners. And as some of you probably know, that's an extremely slow subset of Ohio "registered" horses. Often, in fact, Ohio breds switching from registered to accredited company move up many lengths.

Mnr's misapplication of the term "accredited" in races restricted merely to horses foaled within state confines (those that fall under the completely separate "raiser" loophole notwithstanding..) DRIVES ME BONKERS.
