I happened to tune in Hialeah on Monday afternoon, when it and Parx were the only two tracks running in the U.S.
Before race 2, there was a delay because a jockey got injured and had to be taken away in an ambulance and they didn't want to start the race without another ambulance in place.
Then the starting gate malfunctioned, so they had to use a back-up gate.
They finally ran race 2, but race 3 was declared no contest because not all the stalls on the back-up gate opened properly.
Before race 4, an announcement was made that because management could not rely upon the starting gate working and darkness would occur before the card could be completed, the remaining races were cancelled.
Bizarre day!

........a jockey got injured and had to be taken away in an ambulance and they didn't want to start the race without another ambulance in place.........Bizarre day!In states with Rules of Racing (Florida legislature deleted theirs and tracks have "house rules") they are REQUIRED to have an ambulance on the grounds when running a race (or when the track is open for training in the mornings.) If an exercise rider (or other person) is injured at track in AM and ambulance transports, they will close the track for training and reopen only when that ambulance (or a replacement ambulance) is back on the grounds.

That, PLUS the starting gate snafu did make for a Bizarre day.
