I have Office 2010, on a disk, and I wanted to install it on my PC, which already has Office 2002 and 2007 installed on it. When I tried to install Office 2010 and entered the product key, I got an error message saying that the product key is not valid. I know it's valid and typed correctly, so I did some checking on the MS website and it appears that the install won't work with previous versions already installed, due to conflicts with older versions.

Is 2010 just an upgrade to 2007 and possibly that version is causing a conflict in the 2010 install? I can't see how 2002 would cause a conflict.

I can uninstall 2007, but I need to keep 2002 on my PC. I'd rather not uninstall 2007 unless I know for sure that 2010 will install afterward.

Any suggestions?

raybo,

You should have the option to do a custom install. I think there is an option after that to keep previous versions. This should install 2010 into a different folder. I think that the only issue might be with Outlook.

HH,

You're probably right, but I can't get that far. The product code has to be authenticated before the "Continue" button becomes active.

As far as I know, the only restriction is that you install older versions before newer. So 2002 gets installed first. Then 2007, then 2010. But never tried it out of sequence. Another thing you should be awre of is if you have previously used/installed the 2010 Office program, you are only allowed to install it a few times depending on the license/version. So you may be limited to 2 or 3 uses.

I have 2003, 2007, and 2010 on my older machine, 2003 and 2010 and the newer. No install problems. Call Microsoft. They are actually pretty good support wise for the first few hours until after you will be charged.

Btw, I have found 2007 better in certain ways than 2010, but For ALLData, pre-2007 still is tops. I take back my praise of 2010.

New machine is running ALLdata in a few seconds per card using 2003.

Thanks Harry, I finally got it installed. I uninstalled 2000, but when I did that evidently it uninstalled 2002 also, so after I got 2010 installed, I couldn't find my 2002 shortcut icon, nor could I find the folder on my PC. So, I reinstalled 2002. Now when I open 2002 I get a pop-up trying to install some add-in for 2010, First Image 2010? I have to cancel that installation because it results in a failed install saying it can't find the file. Really weird.

I did a short test of 2010 with the RS black box workbook and it performed almost exactly the same as 2007, over 30 seconds per card and results file, so the pivot table versions don't run any faster than the 'advanced filter" versions. But, I do like to work in it, I created a custom toolbar, with all the tools I use the most, below the ribbon. So, now I will not need to use the ribbon much at all, which is a good thing, for me anyway.

So, how's it going? Miss you around here dude!
