IMPORTANT NOTES

1. Check out the TEAM SIGN-UP thread so you know exactly who is on your team.

2. Communicate with your teammates to arrive at your concensus selections for the contest.

3. Only one post allowed per team. Appoint one player to post on behalf of the entire team. All eight races must be posted at the same time.

4. Coupled entries are considered one betting interest.

5. Once posts are made they may not be changed.

6. Posts must be made one full minute prior to the official DRF "off time".

7. Teams that fail to post on time will only be scored on races run one full minute after their post.

8. All games this season will be scored as "open competitions" with no Divisional matchups.

9. Two options for posting selections:

3 Selection Method

2 Selection Method
3 – 3 – 7 (4 – 12) top 2 picks with the alternates being 4 & 12 in that order.
Team would receive $6.00 payouts for #3; $4.00 payouts for #3; and $2.00 payouts for #7 for Win/Place/Show (assuming no scratches)

Please post your weekly selection similar to the Example below:

Team 35: Team Zenyatta

Event 1: 5-1-4 (6-9)
Event 2: 2-4-1 (8-11)
Event 3: 1-5-4 (6-2)
Event 4: 9-9-10 (1-6)
Event 5: 1-2-9 (3-8)
Event 6: 4-8-9 (1-7)
Event 7: 5-5-6 (3-1)
Event 8: 3-4-10 (7-5)

Hi patrick,

Yes, this is the thread you post your team selections in.

I'm sure Mike (PA) will get them up as early as possible. In the words of Terry Bjork (McChump Racing Tour)......schedule come real soon man. :)

Posting this from my iPhone.

I'm not going to be able to get the schedule up until after midnight tonight. Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause.

If one of our other contest admins wishes to tackle the schedule before then, please feel free. If not, it will definitely be up sometime in the early morning hours. (after midnight and before 3am)

Thanks for your patience!

Just to make sure no one uses the wrong races, I have deleted dylbert's earlier post with his "Suggested" races.

Choosing what races should be designated as contest races is no easy matter, and Mike has always done an excellent job. It will be worth the wait.

No offense intended dylbert. We appreciate the efforts to help!

Why not just pick a single track and 8 races from the entries? What are we getting for these delays, but less time to handicap?

Note: Please ignore "edit by Track Collector" tag below. It was an error on my part, and no actual edits were made. (Chris)

Al, give your head a shake.

Someone could always come up with other ideas.

The contest is excellent as it is and gives an edge to handicappers who are versatile across tracks rather than specialists at one.

No change is necessary and this isn't the place to discuss that type of suggestion anyways. Consider PMing suggestions to the powers that be.

Why not just pick a single track and 8 races from the entries? What are we getting for these delays, but less time to handicap? If it takes you longer to handicap eight races than we are allowed perhaps you should rethink your strategy.

Why not just pick a single track and 8 races from the entries? What are we getting for these delays, but less time to handicap?

Here is a lot of what we are getting:
(a) A variety of different tracks to test your handicapping skill.
(b) A variety of different surfaces (dirt/turf/synthetic) to test your handicapping skill
(c) Races which have FREE past performances available so non-full time players do not have to purchase racing form(s) and/or other PP data.
(d) A group of 8 races that are typically completed in less time than 8 different races at the SAME track.
(e) Races that are specifically selected due to their (larger) field sizes and are deemed more competitive than the average race.

Item (e) is certainly very important when trying to separate the skill levels of many different teams. I could be totally wrong on this, but I think that rather than just looking at races visually to determine how competitive they "might" be, Mike has a way to numerically evaluate how competitive the race is.

Last year I believe Mike typically had the races posted a few hours earlier, so this week could be an exception. Even so, we ALL get about the same time to handicap the races.

Should you believe that you can balance the appropriate criteria for selecting races, I'm sure Mike would be happy to help train you to one day become or help out as Master Scheduler. :)[/QUOTE]

Why not just pick a single track and 8 races from the entries? What are we getting for these delays, but less time to handicap? It really would not have mattered much time-wise had I stuck to one track or looked to grab from the entire universe of tracks available.

As it is, it took me less than an hour to complete the schedule from start to finish.

The reason why I was late getting the schedule up was due to circumstances beyond my control. In other words, life sometimes happens.

When we post our selections can we post one set of selections if the race stays on the turf and the other if it gets moved off?

Hi thearmada,

For your reference, the main applicable rule is listed below:

************************************
6. POSTING

· One member for each team will be responsible to post the selections on behalf of their team.
· All posts must be made one full minute prior to the first official post time.
· A late post will only be scored on races that run a full minute after the post.
· Teams are allowed to make only one post per contest but will be allowed to edit that post only for the brief editing period as allowed by PaceAdvantage. No other alterations are allowed after that first post.
· Coupled entries are considered one interest.
************************************

So unfortunately, the answer is no. We also do not allow more than 5 horse selections in a race (Your top-3, and 2 alternates), nor do we allow the "order" of the selections to change based on some type of condition.

You are not without options though, that could "help" the situation.

One thing you could do is to delay posting your team's contest selections until just a few minutes before the off time of the first contest race. (Don't cut it too close....because if you miss the posting deadline, your first contest race will be scored a zero.). In delaying your selection posting in this manner, you will have gained more time in the hope of determining whether a race is On or Off the turf. There is always a risk that a race is taken off the turf AFTER the contest posting deadline, but all teams face that risk, and have to go with whatever selections they have posted.

Another option could be considered either creative or foolish, depending on your viewpoint. :) Let's say that you handicapped the a race as follows:

If On the Turf --> 7,1,4 (5,10)
If Off the Turf --> 3,2,5 (8,7)

If the race were still on the turf at the time you were required to post your teams selections, but you still believed there was a significant chance the race would eventually be moved to the dirt, you might consider something like the following: 7,1,4 (3,2) Notice your two alternates, which move into the top-3 in the event of any scratches, would have been in your top-3 anyway if the race were originally scheduled to run on the dirt.

I hope this helps!
