Interesting in that he thought he had #3000 in the second to last game of the 1972 season, only to have the official scorer change it. I wonder how that writer would've felt if Clemente didn't get that double in the final game; and would've had his career end at 2,999 hits.

Given the way he was treated by many writers there, the writer might have been proud of himself.
