Mark Steyn on Xmas with Obama , A royal Xmas
The cost to taxpayers of flying one man, his wife, two daughters, and a dog to Hawaii is estimated at $3,639,622. For purposes of comparison, the total bill for flying the entire royal family (Queen, princes, dukes, the works) around the world for a year is £4.7 million — or about enough for two Obama vacations. When the President (GOP or democrat) goes anywhere the American people want him to take Air Force One, a flying combination war room and west wing. And they want him to take his secret service detail along. They don't want him to fly tourist, hitch a ride with the British royal family, nor do they want him leave his secret service detail behind or to be a prisoner of the white house. Get used to it.

What are you suggesting?

Obama costs the government more than any other president because of something sinister ?

or

If he lost the election the costs of flying AF1 would be significantly less?

Maybe he should fly coach, Kenyan Airways? Pack his own lunch and stuff his bag and Michele in an overhead compartment because Ayn Rand says so?

I'm not suggesting anything. But I do draw a conclusion from what Steyn is implying. Then again I might agree with that.

Optics have never mattered to the man. They will mean less now that he has been elected. I predict many many high times and vacations in the next four years

Mark Steyn is a smart man. His observation below pretty well sums it up:
"The Obama family costs taxpayers more than every European royal house put together."

Recently, I read where Michelle crowed about having 54 Christmas trees in the White House.
What true advocate of a "greener America," would destroy 54 living trees?
Those two are the epitome of hypocrisy.

I'll find the exact posts later and link to them, but hcap, surely you remember you and Sec crying about Bush playing golf, going to Texas, yadda yadda yadda, right?

Why, you even used a MM film as evidence. Strange, a documentary today is not worthy of the same honor. One might think you were being two-faced here. Ha!

So it begs the question, is Obama wrong now, or, were YOU wrong then, and Bush was right?

Can't have it both ways hcap....which is it?

Or will you pleading mental defect to the charges (surely, you have laid the groundwork for that defense lately!)

Yes, in fact I can have it both ways

http://politic365.com/2012/05/08/obamas-vacations-of-any-president-bush-racked-up-the-most/

Calls to several Presidential libraries reveal that President Obama’s predecessor, George W. Bush, was on vacation more — 1,020 days — than any U.S. President since Herbert Hoover and possibly more than any other President in history.

President Obama has been on vacation 78 days from 2009 to 2011. At the three year mark into their first terms, George W. Bush spent 180 days at his ranch in Crawford, Texas and Ronald Reagan spent 112 vacation days at his ranch in California.

From FactCheck

A: According to one count, Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush spent more time on "vacation" during their first year than President Obama did. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton spent less time on "vacation."

.................................................. .................................................. .

Why don't you ask us a more difficult " gotcha" question like why your dynamic duo duds lost big time and why the American people rejected the philosophy of bitter guys like you?

Could it be your research skills are lacking as in counting vacation days, as in seeing clearly that the village idiot that you loved so much when he invaded Iraq, was in fact much worse than Obama in many many ways? :)

Why don't you ask us a more difficult " gotcha" question like why your dynamic duo duds lost big time and why the American people rejected the philosophy of bitter guys like you?SO what you're saying is, America rejected your philosophy in 2000 and 2004? But embraced it again in 2008 and 2012?

If Republicans miraculously win the White House again someday, does that mean America once again rejects your philosophy?

I do like how you inject the 2012 election results into almost every single reply...

Thanks, but I would say, not every single reply. Maybe about 50% or so.
Depends upon the rate and quantity of insults I receive by guys like Outonbail and others who think I am lining up for handouts or Obama phones. Kabong did that yesterday.

But I have lost track of the total number that I have received since I started simply acting like you guys since the 6th.

Bush went to Texas 77 times. How many times has Obama gone to Hawaii on vacation. I think each Christmas and a few other times. Nowhere near 77 times. Not even a tenth of that. I was not here most of the time Bush was in office so I don't know what Sec and Hcap posted, but I suspect they objected to the number of vacations Bush took rather than the vacations themselves.

Every non biased source tells us that Obama has taken far fewer vacations and vacation days than Bush. And he has taken far more criticism for them. Of course when you have little to criticize, you have to make things up.

Bush actually planned the Crawford trips to save money. He planned it that way. He also stopped playing golf etc due to his self imposed rules on optics. He said he would not be seen recreating in such a fashion while troops were at war.

He was sensitive to the optics and the current economic climate. Most Americans could also afford to go on vacation while Bush was in office. Unlike today.

Remove the context for convenience and on paper your argument is reasonable. Place it in context, you are way off base.

That's the difference.

Well, at least that way, he would be such a hypocrite, would he? He'd be feeling and sharing a little of the pain of his bro' who lives in a thatch hut.

One is led to wonder, in this regard, that since BO doesn't want any part of being his brother's keeper, why would anyone expect him to keep those who are not related to him?

"Height Challenged Thunder Lizards" :)

Andy's Gang was taken to court, sued by the early environmental movement, and an injunction was won against making fun of Froggy. Unfortunately the show was cancelled before the next season aired, when Froggy was to be christened by Andy in secret twist of revenge, "Froggy The Job Killing Greenie" :)

We will never know what became of Froggy. Unless he moved on, and became a prolific annoying filibustering Orangutan with the propensity to whine and blame others.

Do you recall the original Smilin' Ed's Gang with Smilin' Ed McConnell? It was the predecessor of Andy's gang on radio in the late forties. Sponsored by Buster Brown shoes. "That's my dog, Tighe (SP?) he lives in shoe. I'm Buster Brown look for me in there too." and the ever popular, "Plunk your magic twanger, Froggy." Hcap, I know what you're thinking and I don't think you should say that about you know who.

Just a question regarding the initial post in this thread, about the War on Christmas....what kind of dark, cold, rotten person would be offended by anything Christmas? So what if he is not a Christian, or even a believer. What kind of demented, empty creature would begrudge the vast majority of people from celebrating their believes with joy and generosity towards all men?

You have to be pretty much a burned out old bag to think that way.
So who cares if dreggs like this are offended?

The War on Christmas is a different thread. 3 Genuises Disussing The War On Christmas started by hcap. Your question belongs there. But I will answer it here anyway.

I think very few people are offended by Christmas. Some are bothered by the idea that Christmas is the only religious holiday being celebrated at this time. People of the Jewish faith are celebrating Hanukkah, while many Blacks celebrate Kwanzaa. Who knows what holidays Druids and Wiccans might be celebrating at this time.

I celebrate Christmas, but I would not be offended if someone wished me a Happy Hanukkah. I would feel flattered that they thought enough of me to wish that I share in their holiday. Similarly, if someone wishes me Happy Holidays, it takes no effort for me to transpose that into Merry Christmas. My faith is not so shallow that I must insist on a precise greeting.

I think it makes perfect sense for businesses to post more inclusive holiday signs rather than those which specify a particular holiday. On the other hand, I don't think a Jew should be offended if a store posts a Merry Christmas sign, nor should a Christian be offended if a store posts a sign reading Happy Hanukkuh.

I love Christmas. Everyone is of good cheer, buying drinks, presents, having parties, etc. The stores are closed for maybe 1 day but other than that, what's not to like?

BTW, It's OK to buy Christmas presents for Jews. ;)

When I was younger, one of the Jewish moms came in at Hanukkah and told us all about the lights and the menorahs and the stories. We got dreidels to spin around on our desks. We learned how to make potato latkes and ate them happily. A few days later we had our Christmas party.

This is seems like the right way. Exposing kids to a variety of religious customs and celebrations if you really worry that one gets some kind of state sanctioned preferential treatment. As someone that people would describe as an atheist, I'm not at all sure what exactly the noble benefit of shielding people from reality is.

You don't want people to allegedly push what they believe in upon you, but you have no problem essentially pushing that which you do not believe in upon them? Non-belief for most devout atheists is a belief itself and they should just feel free to join in the fun and have their day of sitting around offering to work on Christmas or whatever it is you do to demonstrate your belief in nothing. I thought these types want youngins exposed to all sorts of lifestyles?
