Today is Pearl Harbor Day. On 12/7/ 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in a sneak attact. A Day that that will live infamy. 9/11/2001 has join that class. Lets hope there is no more days like them. A big thank you to all the men that served WWII and to the ones who served before and since.

My father, at the age of 27, quit his bricklayer's job on Monday December 8 and enlisted in the US Navy wihin the week. He fought throughout the South Pacific as a Navy Seabee (CB's- construction battalion).

Thanks Dad and may you rest in peace.

Thanks to all the members here whose parents or grandparents served during this era. God bless all.

I believed my dad at the same age enlisted on the same day or at least the next day as did a lot of American men. As you said God bless them all.

Yeah, really a great picture. Anyone know where it was taken? Makes you wonder if anything comparable would happen if the country really needed millions of today's young men and women to jump in.

Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Yeah, thought it had that NY flavor, but knew it wasn't Whitehall St. I would come into the world a few days after that picture was taken up the road a little at Greenpoint Hospital.

I was alive on that day, although as just a small child have no direct memory of the event. Later on, during active service in the US Navy, and which continues to this day, have felt a kinship to those that died that day, even though I never knew them. A visit to the Arizona Memorial was an emotional experience, and felt a bond to those that lost their lives and thought of them as my shipmates. To this day, whenever a US Navy vessel enters or leaves Pearl Harbor they render honors when passing the USS Arizona.
