In half an hour, I'm out with my family to attend one of Toronto's many ceremonies to honour our Vets. When I was young and a more firebrand lefty, I was not always on side with the respect and thanks that should have been given. I missed opportunities I truly regret, and now, for at least a generation, I attend every year.

God bless them all and the sacrifice they have given.

Here are a couple of uplifting tokens in their honour.

“It is the Veteran, not the Preacher, who has given us freedom of Religion.”
“It is the Veteran, not the Reporter, who has given us freedom of the Press.”
“It is the Veteran, not the Poet, who has given us freedom of Speech.”
“It is the Veteran, not the Campus Organizer, who has given us freedom to Assemble.”
“It is the Veteran, not the Lawyer, who has given us the right to a Fair Trial.”
“It is the Veteran, not the Politician, who has given us the Right to Vote.”
“ Freedom isn’t Free.”

I thank each and every service man and woman, past and present, for their dedication to this country and for protecting my freedom.

GOOD POINT ROOKIES!

Instead of once a year I sometimes wonder how many people realize that the freedoms we take for granted every day had a price that was paid for by our service men and women fighting in places where most people wouldn't go to on a bet......let alone orders.

God Bless our service men and women each and every day!

FREE STUFF!!!… is not the purpose of Veteran’s Day. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t graciously accept some of the offers extended by private businesses to show their appreciation for those who have served in our nation’s armed forces:

A Veterans' Day salute in remembrance of my father (a Navy physician who was at Pearl Harbor) and my mother (a Navy nurse for twelve years)(until I came along), as well as in honor of all who have served (especially with my employer for the past 34-1/2 years - the United States Army)!

Thanks for posting that Rookies, it has been a while since I had seen that. And thanks to all the Veterans that have served and those that are still serving. A special remembrance to my friends and Brothers In Arms I lost in Vietnam. I saw something today in the comics that made me pause and say, SO TRUE. One character said "it's sad." The other said, "what's sad?". The first said, "thinking of all the veterans that are not here with us today." The other said, "no, what's sad is if they had never served." Think about that.
