View Full Version : What has Obama done to markedly improve the life of a veteran returning from battle?

I'm listening to his acceptance speech...and he once again stated how no veteran returning from war should have to worry about getting a job or putting a roof over his or her head.

So let me ask...in his four years already, what has he done to ensure all returning veterans have a job waiting and a roof waiting for them?

Do you have some proof that he hasnt done anything at all?

That pretty much proves his point.
Thank you for playing.

they put their lives on the line and work for peanuts. he hasn't done anything more for them than anyone before him has.

a matter of fact, he hasn't done to much for anyone except for banks and big business's and a few of his friends. in truth even though those that are getting the food stamps and free anything in reality have only got a miserable life in front of them.

To his credit Obama signed a jobs initiative plan for veterans entitled The Veterans Jobs Corp Initiative.

It involves $5 billion bucks.

See link: http://www.inquisitr.com/190405/obamas-veterans-jobs-corps-plan-details-2012/

Having said that on any summer evening over 700,000 vets are homeless.

The suicide rate among vets is also very high. Something in the neighbourhood of 1 a day.

Thanks for the link. This is the kind of thing I was looking for...I was wondering if Obama supporters would be quick to point stuff like this out, but curiously, they haven't...it's almost as if they weren't aware of some of his initiatives...

$5B is a good start towards fulfilling some of that Obama rhetoric.

Either that or they're having trouble keeping up with the scores of threads that have started since the election bemoaning everything they can point their finger at (and many of them started by you Pace)...funny that the righties never seem to point the finger at themselves.
Blame the electorate...yeah, the people are stupid and that's why Romney lost :(

Can you please pint to the scores of threads?

I perused the first page, and only saw 13 started since the election, 2 by PA. One of PA's threads was this one, the other was where he said he was wrong.

Of the remaining 11, 1 was started by NJStinks to celebrate the victory, one was started by Hank showing a cartoon, one was from a guy saying it was his last post, one was celebrating the gambling vote in Maryland, 1 questioned voter turnout, 1 was about dead guy winning elections, 2 others had nothing at all to do with the election, and 3 were stared by Just Ralph.

That must be it, JR's threads!

One was about Ohio Casinos
One was about the tax increase in California
And the last one was about all the conservative pundits who got it wrong.

Funny, the last one seems like a righty pointing the finger at other righties.

Your sense of reality is a bit off POT.

Well, I think either side would have made the same case. And the campaigns would have as well, albeit using their language of code words. What's the one political code word used in explaining failed campaigns?

"messaging"

What does that mean? It means the manipulation of the idiots. It's a mark of great success to be the better manipulator. It takes a certain level of stupidity to manipulated by campaign sound bites and bad commercials. So, I don't think it's exactly a stretch for either side to claim that they won or lost thanks to how stupid people are... and most will pat themselves on the back for being better at speaking directly and/or indirectly to them and winning the election because of it.

Good Lord Isbets (or is it LS Bets, as in Lone Star Bets ?...always wondered about that)

I didn't think you'd take the word 'scores' literally, as in 20-40-60 threads. I think you get my point...i was saying 'a lot', and the fact that Pace has started at least three (which is more than he normally starts in that period of time) is why i said he started many.
Haven't you noticed PA's presence since Tues has been quite heavy? Never known him to post this much in a short period of time.

NY TIMES:
Veterans won’t be getting a new, billion-dollar jobs program, not from this Senate. Republicans on Wednesday afternoon blocked a vote on the Veterans Job Corps Bill after Jeff Sessions of Alabama raised a point of order — he said the bill violated a cap on spending agreed to by Congress last year. The bill’s sponsor, Patty Murray of Washington, said that shouldn’t matter, since the bill’s cost was fully offset by new revenues. She said Mr. Sessions and his party colleagues had been furiously generating excuses to oppose the bill, and were now exploiting a technicality to deny thousands of veterans a shot at getting hired as police officers, firefighters and parks workers, among other things.

Over 280 bills proposed by Dems have been filibustered in last 4 years.

he said the bill violated a cap on spending agreed to by Congress last year.

Then blame the dems for violating the agreement.
They COULD offer up some spending cuts to allow the bill to meet the agreement.

Blame the ones who made the mistake. What the dems are saying is free cell phones are more important than our troops.

PhantomOnTour is correct when he says it is difficult to keep up with all the threads that have been started lately. Particularly if you choose to post logical well thought out replies like you know who rather than one liners like Tom.

Here is a link that lists twenty four laws, regulations or initiatives taken by the Obama administration to help veterans.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/veterans

Of course this does not include measures the administration attempted to pass which were thwarted by Republicans in Congress; such as the one mentioned by jognlope.

In the immortal words of Obama

My fellow Americans: Ask not what your country can do for you. If you make more than $250,000, I'll tell you what you can do for your country.

My fellow Americans: Ask not what your country can do for you. If you make LESS than $250,000, I'll GIVE you all I can to make your life more comfortable. Don't worry about working for it, we've got plenty to give, even if we have to borrow it from China.

Nope. That was Larry the Cable Guy who graduated "magna cum laude".....Obama can prove me wrong by producing his 'scripts. Till then...

Valuist, forget those transcripts. I was lucky enough to find his Electoral College transcripts online! Let's take a peek while nobody's looking.

2008 Electoral Votes:
Obama - 365
McCain - 173

2012 Electoral Votes excluding Florida:
Obama - 303
Romney - 206

Combined Electoral Votes:
Obama - 668
Repubs - 452

Damn! The way things are going stat-wise Obama may not get that 4th term!

He'll get it....But, by that time he will be called something else, other than the POTUS....Maybe something like "Emperor" or his" Highness", or maybe "Grand High Exalted Mystic Ruler"....

Currently tho, I don't think he is content with being called "Santa Claus", so that will surely change soon enough......And for those who believe inand voted for Santa, they are in for a rude awakening in the not too distant future, imo...
