What it means: In the last 654 pace races at RIDC, more than twice as many of the winners were within 2.5 lengths of the winner at the half-mile, three-quarter, stretch calls, AND finish AND were trained by one of the top 10 trainers at RIDC compared to all horses.

In the last 357 trot races at RIDC, more than twice as many of the winners were within 2.5 lengths of the winner at the half-mile, three-quarter, stretch calls, AND finish AND were trained by one of the top 10 trainers at RIDC compared to all horses.

Well ... so what is to be done with this? You might look at entries in today's race that were close up at all points in the last half of their last race AND are trained by one of the top 10 trainers. Drivers are good, too, but the figures for trainers are better. The values for the combined close to pace and either top 10 driver or top 10 trainer substantially exceed those of close to pace as a standalone consideration.

(Entries that won the race are factored out of the "close to pace" consideration to avoid misleading and corrupted values.)
