"epicenter" was 5 miles north of Lone Star Park @ 11:09pm, aftershocks 10 minutes later. People in Irving, Coppell, Grapevine, Addison felt it.

Not a big one of course, but we haven't had quakes here until 2009 or so.

Wwe've had smaller earthquakes the past 2-3 yrs in southern Tarrant and northern Johnson counties (in the metroplex). Common denominator is these lil quakes are happening where the mining / drilling for NG is going on in the Barnett Shale.

Also causing time distortions.

I felt it last night in Houston. There was no noise, just a couple of light thumps on the floor.

If you've ever lived in an upstairs apartment you will understand how it felt.

It was like the old lady downstairs whacking the ceiling a couple of times with the broom handle whenever you made a little noise.

I live 25-30 miles from the epicenter, didn't feel a thing.

Update at 9 a.m. Sunday: There were, in fact, two quakes overnight, as many have noted below — the one in Irving, and a second at Walton Walker and I-30. That one — a 3.1-magnitude quake — followed moments later.

For those so inclined, here’s the latest from the USGS concerning the Irving quake — including an alphabetically ordered look at who reported feeling what and where, from Addison to Wylie.

Original item at 11:26 p.m. Saturday: No doubt you just felt the shakes and rattles moments ago, especially if you’re near Irving, where, a little after 11, a 3.4-magnitute earthquake was recorded by the U.S. Geological Survey. (The coordinates put it more or less at the intersection of N. MacArthur Boulevard and W. Rochelle Road.) The U.S.G.S. puts it near Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, - SNIP

RE: Report above.....the first quake was 5 miles north of Lone Star Park, the 2nd quake was 4 miles west of the track.

Drilling in that area is common, widespread
