according to Fox Business News, the Red Sox are being shopped around now.

from what i understand, the past series against the Yankees did not sell out.

They should, and then disband them. That would be terrific.

With the Dodgers selling for a billion +, the time is right. Also, if the fiscal cliff is a reality, it will hit pocketbooks and the corporate mindset might not be so eager to pay a ton of $$ for prime seats for customers.

Good move by JH.

Good move by JH.Nah, a good move would have been looking to sell them when they're NOT sucking beach balls like this year...this season's performance and that ancient ballpark of theirs doesn't do the asking price any favors.

The better question is whether or not NESN is also part of the deal.

If NESN isn't, they won't be worth much comparatively speaking. If I'm JH I'm looking to sell. As for the quality of the team, a ballclub doesn't take that long to build...A couple of yrs away, I'd put the Sawx back in the thick of things, esp if the pitching prospects from LAD come thru

JD is supposedly hot after Ellsbury. He's a FA after the '13 season so I doubt we'd give a major prospect for him.....Maybe Perez? (LHP, 22yo)

Then please explain how the Dodgers sold for so much? Many franchises aren't valued by on field performance.

Heres an NFL list three out of five haven't even made it to a conference semifinal in the last ten years.

No one in baseball has won more than two World series in the past ten years I don't think winning championships adds all that much to the worth of a franchise. The Yankees have won only one and are and always will be the premier franchise in baseball. I highly doubt their value went down the year they didnt make the playoffs.

I agree with TLG, NESN is a highly valued equity that would have to be included in any sale. Regional networks are huge money makers for many franchises now.

I used to like you.

Having said that I promise to be fair and balanced when it comes to OKC.

High just might be this year. Though I think it's highly doubtful there were rumors that the Yanks were up for sale.

Most of the profits now are in the Regional Sports Networks.

Plus the Yanks own a third of the network. great deal same as MSG owning their network along with the Knicks and Rangers.

YES generated a staggering $224 million in operating income and paid the Yankees a $90 million rights fee in 2011.

As a Red Sox fan I hope they sell yesterday even though part of this management team has brought them two World series. Epstein resigned in 2005 and had to be coaxed back to return. Larry Lucchino is the cancer and my two cents the reason for their downfall. Most management teams fail when certain individuals think they are stinking geniuses and want to exert their power.
