Finally, here they are.

Your contest rules have evolved through long discussions between Jay and I, and have taken into consideration all the different suggestions as offered by potential contest participants.

Please take your time and read through them very carefully. You may find them long and/or overly detailed, but the more complete the rules, the less conflict and stress later.

As always, should you have any questions, take the time to send me or Jay a private message, and we will do our best to clear things up.

Good Skill to ALL. :)

CONTEST RULES:

1. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
-- Players ranked in the top 64 with regard to PACS (PaceAdvantage Contest Series) points automatically qualify for entry. Players who decline or are unable to participate will be replaced by the next highest available player outside the top 64.
-- All participants must acknowledge that they have read and understand the contest rules under the thread designated for that purpose no later than 09/15/2012. Failure to do so could put the player's participation at risk. Exception: If need be, subject deadline could be extended in order to fill out the field of 64.

2. PLAYING BRACKETS
-- Subject brackets will be posted ASAP after finalization of the field of 64.
-- Subject brackets will be similar to those used by the NCAA for their annual college basketball tournament.

3. MATCH/GAME DEFINITION and SCHEDULE
-- In each round of play, participants shall compete head-to-head in a series of games.
-- The first player to win 3 games will move on to the next round, with his/her opponent being eliminated.
-- Games will be played at a rate of 1 per day from Wednesday thru Sunday of that respective week.
-- Each GAME shall consist of 5 different thoroughbred races from a single track. (Both you and your opponent will be playing the same 5 races.).
-- The player with the highest net ROI over the 5 races will be be declared that game's winner. Net ROI is defined as the (Payout) / (Initial Wagers - refunds).
-- If at the end of a GAME both players achieve the exact same ROI, each player will credit for winning 0.5 or 1/2 game.
-- If at the end of a MATCH both players are tied at 2.5 games apiece, the player achieving the highest ROI over the ENTIRE match will win the tie-breaker, and move on to the next round.

4. ESTABLISHMENT OF TRACK/RACES TO BE PLAYED
-- The higher ranked player will be required to select the track and races to be played for games 1,3, and 5, and must post subject information in the designated thread no later than 7:00 p.m. Eastern time the night before the scheduled game. The lower ranked player will be responsible for doing so for games 2 and 4. Should a player miss this deadline, the track and races to be played will be set by the first person posting their choices after 7:00 p.m.
-- Once posted, the track and list of races to be played can not be edited, except for the brief few minutes as permitted by the PaceAdvantage Forum application.
-- As a courtesy, it is recommended that in addition to your public posting, you also send the information to your opponent via private message.
-- VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Only races with free Brisnet Past Performances can be chosen as contest races. The track/race selector must personally verify that subject race PPs are available on http://www.trks2day.com/trks2day.html.

5. WAGERING AMOUNTS and TYPES
-- Players will be required to wager exactly $100 per race, and may do so using any of the allowable wager types.
-- The allowable wager types are Win, Place, Show, Exacta, Quinella, Trifecta, Superfecta, Daily Double, Pick 3, Pick 4, and Pick 5.
-- Should a player wager LESS than $100 in a given race, it will be counted as if he/she wagered $100, and no adjustments will be made to the base wagering amounts of their original wagers. Should a player wager MORE than $100 in a given race, their wagers will be reduced to get to the $100 maximum amount. Wagers will be reduced per the standard practice in prior contests, and a contest moderate can assist you with this task.
-- The minimum base wager amount for any selection is $1, and can be increased by $1 increments.
-- Horizontal wagers such as the Daily Double, Pick 3, etc. can not be made if the involved races are not selected as contest wagers. (Example: Contest races 3,4,6,7, and 8 are selected. A Pick 3 would only be allowed starting with race 6. A Pick 3 starting in race 3,4,5,6, or 7 would not be allowed, as one of the legs (race#5) is not a contest race.).
-- Wagers involving horizontal legs are applied entirely to the first leg. (Example: A player wagers $20 in Daily Doubles involving races 1 and 2. The entire $20 wager amount would count toward to amount wagered in race 1.).

6. POSTING OF SELECTIONS
-- Selections for all 5 game races must be made in a single posting at least 1 minute prior to the race off time of the first contest race. Should a posting be late, any races that do not meet the 1 minute prior to race off time requirement will be counted as a loss of $100.
-- Wagers are not allowed to include any alternate selections.
-- Once posted, selections can not be edited, except for the brief few minutes as allowed by the PaceAdvantage Forum application. (Posts edited under this condition must still meet the 1 minute prior to race off time requirement.).

7. SCRATCHES
-- Due to the restrictions imposed on the posting of selections, scratches will be refunded, and ROI calculations will be adjusted accordingly.

8. COUPLED ENTRIES
-- Due to the complications involved with so many different scorers, players WILL NOT have the option to selectively choose one part of coupled entry and receive a refund under certain conditions if the desired part of the coupled entry is scratched. Unlike prior contests, coupled entries in this contest will be handled EXACTLY like they are at the track. If only part of the entry scratches out, you will still be considered to have "live" plays with the remaining horse(s) and will be scored accordingly.

9. WAGER NOMENCLATURE
-- With so many possible styles to post wagers, there exists significant opportunity to misunderstand a player's wager selections. To minimize this possibility, it is STRONGLY suggested that you adopt the following format:

FORMAT --> Track, Race#, Base Wager Amount, Selections, ($ Total)

Examples: Penn National, Race#4, $50 Exacta Box 2,3 ($100 total)

Penn National, Race#5, $40 Win/Place #1 ($80 total)
Race#5, $4 Exacta #1 with 2,4 ($8 total)
Race#5, $2 Trifecta Key #1 with 2,4 with 2,4,8,9 ($12 total)

-- It is also highly recommended that you eliminate ALL abbreviations as well.

10. SCORING and REPORTING
-- All matches will be self-scored between the two competing players.
-- The player who wins the game/match should take responsibility for posting as such in the designated thread.
-- As standard procedure, Moderators will not monitor matches, but will only get involved to clarify scoring, etc., when requested to do so by one of the players.
-- Should a player contest the result of a specific game, they must do so by notifying one of the Moderators no later than 12:00 noon Eastern Time the day after the game in question. Otherwise, the game result will be considered OFFICIAL.

11. FORUM THREADS
-- To make for a smooth and trouble-free contest, please submit your postings under the specifically designated threads.

12. DECISIONS
-- The contest Moderators shall have the final word regarding any matter.
-- It is the expectation that Good Sportsmanship shall prevail.

There seems to be some confusion regarding where to acknowledge the contest rules.

Jay created a thread titled "Declare You Intention to Participate in Match Play". THIS IS NOT THE THREAD WHERE YOU INDICATE RULES ACKNOWLEDGEMENT.

I created a thread titled "IdaBet.com Contest Rules Acknowledgement". THIS IS THE THREAD TO INDICATE RULES ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, BUT YOU DO SO BY VOTING IN THE POLL LISTED AT THE TOP OF THE THREAD.

Why do we have you vote in the poll rather than post a thread response? When looking at the poll question (at the top of the thread), it will show a highlighted number to the right side. By clicking on that highlighted number, you can see WHO actually voted for that particular response. It shows a summary in alphabetical order, and eliminates the need for Moderators to search thru the entire thread and tally manually.
