I would buy my home track Remington Park, and first thing I would do is alot of B&S.
Booze and Strippers.Set up OTB in the silicon parlors, and simulcast everything in America from dogs to trotters, quarter horses, and thoroughbreds from all over the world. With every bet you make ,you would get points towards free lap dances. At the track itself,I would make weekly handicapping contests with cash prizes, charge no admission, put in a Hooters Sportsbar, and have slot machines and card tables on the clubhouse level.Every Friday nite we would have a loser of the week contest, where contestants would tell hard luck racing stories for cash and prizes.

I hope this isn't too far off but if it were legal, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Here in the Dallas area we can bet one place-LS Park. It's a 45 minute drive (w/ no traffic) from most of the populace here. Very hard to get to.

If it were legal to do so, I'd buy small theaters in Plano, Garland, Lower Greenville Ave and set up what Philly Park has (from what i see on theire website). Nice, decent places to eat and bet the races. Good food, cold beverages and clean floors and bathrooms (unlike LS).

It w/b a sure fire money machine here. The Baptists would block it in a heartbeat, tho (and have).

Ok, now there you go...think outside the box!
You have a future in this business, my friend.
I think you should talk to NTRA...they could some of your ideas a lot better than showing racing commercials on racing shows!
I know I would go the track more often if you ran it!!

Good luck,we have OTB set ups in several resturants and sportsbars and they suck.
The management doesn't realize the bettors come there to eat and drink, not the eaters and drinkers come there to bet.
Service is lousy and the betting windows are put in the most unreachable area of the establishment.
The casinos are a little better, but they could improve their books as well.
Heck I didn't think LS was that bad,it was pretty clean to me.I just wonder how it will handle 50,000 people for BC day, when 20,000 is overwhelming right now.
I really liked Sam Houstons simo center, with each seat having a TV as well as Big screens .There was also the option of getting your own ticket machine ,so you wouldn't even have to get up except for potty breaks. And they could solve that with catheters and bedpans....

I'd buy Lone Star.

1) Add a new simulcast facility. Make the new one smoking and convert the old one to non-smoking, so the non-smokers wouldn't have to walk through smoke.

2) Clean the restrooms.

3) Staff the betting windows that are mostly empty.

4) Put in an indoor accomodation for the common man, bare concrete where you bring your own lawn chair and sit inside for free like you could at the track out west of Ft. Worth when it was open.

That's just a few ideas.

Ranchwest,

Remember Ross Downs in Colleyville before the days of pari-mutuel wagering here? It was just off hwy 26. Whoever owned that land is now a multi millionaire b/c of location. That land is now a "neighborhood" of $400-$800k homes.

Good suggestions about LS, btw. However w/ their downward trends (attendance and on-track handle) I wouldn't put another penny into that place, myself.

I'm a former "resident" of Delta Downs, so I don't remember Ross Downs.

LS is going to have to do some major expansion if they're going to host the BC.

LS tries to cater to high rollers and they turn off a lot of common people. They're always trying to think of something new for which to charge people.

I'd buy Lrl & Pim and sell them to just about anybody other than who I just bought them from.
