They ran it at 9f on the Mellon turf course....they NEVER run that distance on that course. That distance is (was) always run on the inner.
Anyone know why?

Screw up my database? :D
I see they came out with a new rail distance of 27 feet this meet, too.
That, undoubtedly, is what cost me this year! What else could it have been?

The 27 feet was new, but I don't think running 9f on the Mellon course is new.

It's the first 9f race on the Mellon this meet...i did check and they ran that distance about 3 times in 2011.

How many 1 1/8 races were there on the inner?

Thanks, I have it as being run on the Mellon fairly often in years past.

You really wanna know?

What does that even mean?

I thought it was a fairly simple question.

One that the public handicapper for NYRA can answer on his own without my help.
Besides, you wouldn't believe some anonymous internetter would you?

Off the top of my head i can recall the Diana, Lake Placid and Saranac. A few more were washed out this meet.
My point was that it's a distance rarely run on the Mellon...the vast overwhelming majority of 9f turf races at Sar are on the inner.

The point I was making is before this year at least, that isn't true.

Thanks for reminding me to stay away from here.

I know...i just thought it odd that it was run only once this year, and the final race of the meet at that.

Sorry if i misinterpreted, but this question seemed a bit disingenuous, as you have the answer at your fingertips i am sure.

TLG is my friend, so I'm sure this will come off as defending him, but I really doubt that is something that can just be pulled up as quick as you think. Sure, for guys like us that keep a database it can be. I'd be shocked if any track has something nearly as extensive as we do.

Looks to me like it was about half and half last year. Doesn't look like quite as many went this year at the distance as the year before.

My data base shows 9 and 1 2012
6 and 5 2011
5 and 4 2010

I am just updating Sar and Dmr tonight...I have 9 9.0F races on the inner and 1 on the main this year.

I've just come to the (Lawrence) realization that I'm the only guy here without a database.

The OP kind of left me scratching my head.
It would make more sense to have 9F on the one mile Mellon than push the gate to the top of the stretch to run 9f on the inner.

It depends. One the Mellon they have to start fairly close to the turn.
