Songwriter Joe South (actual name Joseph Souter) who wrote such hits as Billy Joe Royal's "Down in the Boondocks", Lynn Anderson's "I Never Promised You A Rose Garden", and the self-recorded "The Games People Play" has passed away at the age of 72.

Damn fine and accomplished session guitarist too. Played on a couple of Aretha's and Bob Dylan's recordings, I seem to recall.
