Maybe not. In a sense that was a very prophetic song when you stop to think about it. Ernie did himself proud.

I liked the Homer and Jethro version of the song, which also pertained to where the country is heading. They changed the end of the chorus to:

"Saint Peter, don't you holler fer me today,
'Cause I'm a-diggin' the other way."

Country singers (and sometimes popular singers, as well) of the '40's through the '60's would know that they had finally "made it" when Homer and Jethro would parody one of their songs. (Check out their other stuff on YouTube,)
