After Dynamic Youth won yesterday’s Cane, there was a weird exchange between Darrin Zoccali and winning driver George Brennan. Z asked George if DY’s next stop would be the Jug, and George shrugged and said something like, “I guess so.” Z seemed to assume that would be the case and that George would have an opportunity to win that classic for the first time.

Brennan drove DY four times last year but hadn’t driven him for more than a year, so it’s no wonder he was uncomfortable with these questions. Beyond that, Dynamic Youth isn’t staked to the Jug. After winning the Cane, his connections can supplement him for $45,000, but that’s no slam dunk. There’s a $225,000 NYSS final two days after the Jug at Yonkers. That’s where Heston Blue Chip is headed. Will DY’s owners go in that direction—probably their plan all along—or will they pay a premium to start in Delaware?

DY sticks to the SS program for the most part, however he had two good seconds in the elimination and final of the Confederation Cup over the half-mile track at Flamboro not long ago, and he just won the first leg of the Triple Crown.

DynamicYouth is a gelding, so there is no real monetary value in the added prestige associated with winning the Jug. On the other hand, Jerry Silva owns a piece of him, and he loves getting his picture taken in the winner’s circle of a high profile race. Stay tuned.

Owner Jerry Silva informed harnessracing.com that the $45,000 price tag on buying into the Jug, combined with the chance of drawing on the outside, convinced Dynamic Youth’s connections to stick with the NYSS and not supplement the Bettor’s Delight gelding to the Jug. He is not eligible to the Tattersalls, Bluegrass or BC and won’t be supplemented to any of those races. His season will probably end with the American National at Balmoral.
