View Full Version : Ryan's Marathon

In a recent radio interview Paul Ryan claimed to running a marathon in 2:50ish which is an excellent time. When questioned by the interviewer he said "yeah I was pretty fast".

Turns out he actually ran a 4:01 which he later owned up to.

The odd thing is why make a false claim on something so trival and easily
verifiable?

Would anyone really care if he ran a 4:01 over a 2:50? Not really. Strange coming from a purported numbers guy who just happens to be a candidate for vice president.

Hopefully, the media will fully vet this candidate for vice president...

like all of us can recall with perfect exactitude our times or scores from 22 years ago?

I've run 3 marathons in the past 2.5 years.
I'm slow.
54 years old, 6'2", weighing 215-220, with a heart pacemaker.

My times have been 5:28, 5:50, and 6:10.
Would I ever lie about them? No.
I believe that doing so raises an integrity issue.
You lie about something like that, you will lie about plenty of other things.

The way Ryan is going, he's really will create a whole slew of new jobs!

Namely, fact checkers.

Namely, fact checkers.Let's just hope the fourth estate lives up to its traditions of investigating vice-presidential candidates, especially young ones.

Do you think they will do a good job with Ryan so that we won't be caught with any surprises down the road?

Think people forget their marathon times, check out the the 400 posts on Letsrun.com. Embellishing your race times among runners is like red-boarding on a horse racing site.

I believe the media will put him through the ringer.
Surely, he has already gone through an extensive vetting process within his own party?

I do think that he is a much stronger VP candidate than the GOP had in 2008.

Would anyone really care if he ran a 4:01 over a 2:50? Not really. I completed my one and only marathon. Half way through I said to myself "I gotta finish this thing because I'm never doing this thing again"!

Believe me, you don't forget your time -- especially a sub-3 hour time vs. a +4 hour time.

The question is "why lie"! I don't know because my respect for him finishing the damn thing would be the same with either time. Brain fart I guess!

You lie about something like that, you will lie about plenty of other things.

You see, this is why we want to see the sealed writing of Obama - has
lied about a LOT of things.....but you only care about race times?

Obama made up girl friends in his autobiography....a grown man who pretend to have dated women - isn't that an alarm for a secret molester?
I'd keep my kids away from the president until we have proof what the hell he is.

But you get the point, right?

I believe the media will put him through the ringer.
Surely, he has already gone through an extensive vetting process within his own party? Again, you assume this but we all know it NEVER happened with the president. NO ONE vetted him, we all know that vetting by dems is useless because no matter what kind of lying perverts they uncover, the always continue to support them, ie Charlie Rangel, Billy the sipper Clinton........man oh man, people worry about a race time and ignore the president of the United States corrupting young girls in the oval office. Bill Clinton belongs an a sex offender list.

That's unfair criticism, IMO.

What proof do we have that someone who lies about trivial things will also lie about important matters?

If a man cannot be trusted with $100...does that mean we can't trust him with $10,000?

Ummm...never mind.

I'll say it again...I'm crossing my fingers and praying the media digs into this man Ryan's past...we must make sure the fourth estate does what it always does with all candidates, regardless of party affiliation...

Ummm....never mind...

Not to mention a far superior candidate to the goof the Dems had/have (at least for now).
