I'm a big Clint Eastwood fan. Love his movies.

His presentation made me feel a bit uncomfortable, like when an old uncle, who is well past his prime, gets up at a wedding to a say a little something about the bride and.......

He's still top notch in my books though.

A Hollywood type who isn't a liberal! Oh, the humanity!

You have to understand why so many actors and musicians lean so far left. The "Stars" you see are aberrations. The overwhelming majority are deadbeats who don't have a pot to piss in. So, the welfare state is a perfect fit for them.

I agree. I'm a HUGE Eastwood fan, but I must say, I was more than just a little disappointed in his ramblings. I thought the night was going great til he came out and took some of the luster off the occasion. I know it was a poke at Joe Biden, but we could have done without the "he can't do that to himself", and "I can't do that to myself either".

Maybe better suited to opening night, but he still sounded more intelligent than Biden ever has!

And he did it without a teleprompter!

You can bet that as of this morning, Obama has definite plans for his death panels for the elderly on paper!

Also a big Eastwood fan. He's a better filmaker than actor IMO, but either way he's a terrific entertainer.

That said, he was against the auto bailout and then did a commercial for Chrysler 2 years later. Hard to turn down a pay check I guess.

Stick to making movies Clint.

yes he's an old man now and it shows, but I thought his performance was great. a little improv, some humor and some strong pointed messages.
he had some great lines like "we own this country, we hire politicians to work for us, and sometimes you just have to let them go".

I'm a big fan of Eastwood, always have been, he's a Hollywood legend.
He showed some balls speaking out, mocking our leader. Look at all of the so-called hip edgy comedians who do nothing but act like lapdogs, Colbert & Stewart, Maher, Chris Rock. They act like giddy little girls when it come to dear leader afraid to break with the pack and say anything not approved by the powers that be.

If forced to make a choice between Clint's empty chair and Obama, I would vote for the chair, since at least the chair, by doing nothing, would do far less damage than what Obama will unleash on the nation if he wins a second term.

Using this line of thinking, when the Colbert's, Maher's, etc were mocking Bush, they were showing balls?

Or is it only balls when they speak out when they agree with you?

No.
Its only showing balls when you break from your pack and challenge your leaders. doesn't matter which side you're on. they risked nothing by mocking Bush, that was what they were supposed to do, that was the politically correct thing to do.

What I'm talked about is like the tea party showing balls and directly challenging the leaders of it's own party, taking out sitting Republican senators against the will of the party elders, not just laying down.

very few stand up on the left when there is ample opportunity to do so. we have so many lefties on this board who agree 100% of the time with whatever Obama does. that's not showing balls, it's simply being a stooge for the party elites.

Interesting thought process here. By this logic, unless you're conservative you can't have balls by challenging those in power. Hard to argue the illogical, so I won't.

So what exactly did Eastwood risk? His career? He's been producing the movies he makes for decades.

How about Ron Paul? He wanted to challenge the leaders of his party and didn't want to fall in line like a lap dog at the convention. I must have missed your praise for him. In fact, you wanted him to fall in line. Mixed messages you're sending out here.

Clint was entertaining.
The other creeps you mentioned are probably entertaining to the left. Good for them.

Both sides really need to realize the difference between entertainment and REAL world. When you have allegedly legitimate news media (:lol::lol:)
interviewing entertainers and trying to pass it off as news, Houston, we have a problem.

FOX, CNN, PMSNBC......all guilty.

What Eastwood thinks, what Maher thinks, what Colbert thinks......spare me. It makes ZERO difference.

It would have been a better surprise to bring out Obama's brother, or do a remote from his hut!

Or better yet, bring out some specifics on the 5 points.

But now I can't wait for the venom to come out at the DNC Kenyention.

Guess I'll move here my reply from another thread:

Clint Eastwood is showing his age in more ways than one. He didn't do much good out there last night, but he likely didn't do much bad either.

The Republicans are so desperate to point to anyone well known and say "see, someone important likes us" that they'll happily trot him out there even though shooting from the hip may not be his thing in real life...

BTW, is the Secret Service going to pay him a visit later this morning after his "throat slash" gesture when speaking of the President? I can't wait for that to get the media treatment...

Not a mixed message at all, it's only your lack of understanding that is getting in the way. I know its hard for you and that you understand very little of what goes on in off topic, so let me spell it out again.

I said you have balls when you don't run with the pack. Eastwoods pack is the entertainment industry which is 90% democratic/socialists who support Obama. The list of Obama donors from the entertainment world reads like the top of a who's who list. over the years only a handful have come out of the closet, Heston, Eastwood, Reagan, Kelsey Grammar are just a few that come to mind. Eastwood is 82 so he didn't risk much. But he will be shunned now and if you will notice he is getting trashed for what he did while those you cited who spoke out against Bush were applauded.
If I try to think of a person on the left with balls, the only name I can come up with right now is Michael Moore. Now I hate him and disagree with him 100%, but he does stick to his guns and I have heard him speak out against Obama. that is what I'm talking about.

Yes I also don't care for Ron Paul as you know. But yes he does have balls, that is what I'm talking about. he does take principled positions against the powers that be regardless of party. I salute him for that and he has done some good. what I don't like about him is that he is unfit to be president and that he uses the Republican party. he very well could have been a part of the convention if he would have put his own ambition to the side and threw his support to Mitt Romney. He could have made a speech in primetime and stressed his message of a smaller restrained constitutional government and that Romney is a better choice than Obama. but no he's not into that. you have to pick your battles, and right now the Republican battle is to elect Mitt Romney. Ron Paul is not on board with that, and that's his prerogative. But don't then act all whiny about being unfairly treated if you declare that you're not part of the team. you can't be a rebel sticking your finger in the eye of the leaders and expect to be invited for dinner.

you never did mention what you like about Ron Paul, or why you were so concerned about him being treated unfairly at the convention. I'm quite sure that if he were the actual Republican nominee that you would have zero positive to say about him.

Overall Clint's bit was a disappointment but he said one thing that resonated, "This is our country, the politicians work for us, they are our employees." He made his point, if the elected official is not doing a good job you have to replace him.

By the way, anyone who says that Eastwood is over the hill doesn't know Hollywood. He's one of the most talented, successful, and sought after film makers in the business. He'll go down in history as a brilliant director.

Love his movies, peerless icon. But his speech last night supports a longstanding observation of mine: When stubbornly quiet people finally DO open their mouths, they say the dumbest stuff imaginable. When the lips aren't moving, the brain sure is, and usually in weird directions. The invisible prez bit was priceless.

The biggest fallacy known to man is that silent people are somehow smarter than gregarious ones.

In public, he's a notorious introvert. A soft spoken man of few words, who no doubt wishes today it had been even fewer. Incidentally, without intending to spark debate, just curious, what's your current take on the election? I'm still confident on my side of the arrangement, but not extremely so. How about you?

Positively jaunty. I'm more than aware of your take on the hand-out crowd delivering another 4 for BO, not gonna happen.

As ethnically diverse as SoCal can be, I swim with a diverse crew. My personal poll says the Hispanic vote will be better than expected.

Clint Eastwood is 82 years old.

Signs of decline, common to his age group, were noteable.

But all in all, he pulled off what most of us couldn't pull off.

He spoke to any empty chair and his interaction with it was quite comical.

Cheers to Clint and for those of you who didn't see his speech it's below.

I wonder if he's really 82. Usually with movie stars you add 5 years, they all lie about their date of birth. I once sold something to a famous movie star and his secretary told me it was his 75th birthday that day. Five years later I saw on the Today show an announcement that it was his 75th birthday. True story.

President: Mr. Gardner, do you agree with Ben, or do you think that we can stimulate growth through temporary incentives?
Chance: As long as the roots are not severed, all is well. And all will be well in the garden.
President: In the garden.
Chance: Yes. In the garden, growth has it seasons. First comes spring and summer, but then we have fall and winter. And then we get spring and summer again.
President: Spring and summer.
Chance: Yes.
President: Then fall and winter.
Chance: Yes.
Benjamin Rand: I think what our insightful young friend is saying is that we welcome the inevitable seasons of nature, but we're upset by the seasons of our economy.
Chance: Yes! There will be growth in the spring!
Benjamin Rand: Hmm!
Chance: Hmm!
President: Hm. Well, Mr. Gardner, I must admit that is one of the most refreshing and optimistic statements I've heard in a very, very long time. … I admire your good, solid sense. That's precisely what we lack on Capitol Hill.

Well I certainly wasn't disparaging marriage. I just thought it takes on a possessive angle when dopes use, "The Wife."

I'm trying to think of the last time I heard a married woman use "The Husband." But hey, man, live it up in your chauvinistic world.

Meanwhile, I'll continue treating women with care & respect.

When referring to my husband, I call "my husband" (or dad when I am speaking to the kids). When speaking to my husband I call him Babe. If I use his name, he knows I am pissed off about something.

When speaking of me, my huband referrs to me as his Bride (or "mom" if he is talking to the kids) When speaking to me, he calls me sweetlips.

When my daughter speaks of us, she calls us the the 'rents as in "parents"

Did I hear Labor Day chair in an Eastwood skit about a failing Obama Presidency?

You know, at first, I thought it was funny, but not appropriate for the spot it was in. But it sounds like it struck a chord with a lot of people, and it like lifted the stigma of calling the president a failure and insulting him, as he has been doing to us for almost 4 years now.

Suddenly, it is ok to call a jerk a jerk.

I was far too "conservative" in my initial assessment.
When your government fails you, it deserves no respect.
Respect is for grandparents, not leaders. Leaders need to earn our faith.
this bum has not done so, past the weaker minds that walk among us.

Quotes & Qips thus far...

" I may be off my rocker, but at least I'm not talking to it!"

" Hell, I've got bigger balls than Clint Eastwood. Bring me to the DNC and I'll do more than stand on stage babbling like an idiot to an empty chair."

" So, I was thinking- a sofa. There are way to many Republican lies for just one chair, Mr. President."

Interesting interview (http://www.pineconearchive.com/120907-1.html) with Eastwood regarding his convention performance.

He did it mostly off-the-cuff with no formal prepared remarks. The empty stool idea came to him backstage 15 minutes before he went on.

Ironic, that is exactly how Obama came up with his energy plan, his economic recovery plan, his foreign policy..........only not nearly as effectively as Clint.

Obviously I have a strong bias.

Ha ha! Good one. Fair as in right? Right as in far right and never can admit he is wrong?

After reading many of your posts, I do agree that you have a strong bias. That's okay, at least you can admit it. We all have biases of some type and degree.

A funny thing about the truth, for some of us it does not sting at all, for others it may be denial, lies, or fear. It is factual the policy's of this Administration are counter to business and in turn not good for the the economy. So many fear the safety net for their not too bright relative will be taken away and they will be on the hook, seems like a legitimate worry in my books. But what is more important is a robust economy that trumps any country's economy. John Wayne once said "Life is hard, and even harder if your stupid", this is as it should be!
