Any thoughts on the Northfield incident the other night?

(For those who don't know, Northfield had a race on Wed where a 60/1 shot won and a 21/1 shot finished 2nd.. The winner paid $123 and the exacta came back $219. After investigation, 2 drivers were booted - Jim Panteleano and Randy Tharps)

Just looking at the running line of that race now...Now if Tharps had any tix on that Ex and the way the race line looks, thats easily understood.Panteleano on the other hand was on niether horse that was part of the ex,not the odds on fav and the running line looks neither great or awful, its a line. But what about Holliday and Robinson, again just looking at the usta result page its pretty safe to assume they wer'nt the 3rd and 4th obvious choices. They had to have played a rool in that as well...obviously

I want to know who blocked the favorite? in my experience with Harness races that seem to go a muck, somebody blocks the fav to some ridiculous extreme.

anybody know where we can see the video?

Well...Tharps was on the favorite. He let the horses that finished 1-2 ahead of him,he sat 3rd.He appeared to have pulled around the half and lost 4.25 lengths and a position in a 30 .3 third quarter...Tharps appeared to jam up the backfeild ,again im just reading the charts. And again, how did those 2 horses wind up running 1-2 throughout...If you going to ban Tharps from the raceway, and the charts and payoffs could support that move,JP , i dont know where he fits in this yet.But Holliday and Robinson should have also been escorted of the grounds until this matter is resolved. That would only make sence. They didnt run 1-2 all the way around saying to themselves"boy am i glad i was smart enough to leave the gate this week"

This is the exact reason I gave up on the harness stuff. They collaborate. I know t-bred connections aren't always the most honest people, but you very, very rarely hear of any collusion among riders to fix a race. You can make a horse lose, but you can't make a horse win. With the S-breds, you can make a horse win.

Apparently, Tharps sat on the outside and slowed the pace to 103.2 and never gained an inch on the outside.. And Panteleano gave no effort to win. It's a sad, sad black eye for Northfield, who has really had their issues.

One positive to come out of this, IMO, is that Northfield management had the balls to step in and review the race, investigate and punish the guilty parties. This type of stuff (although not as blatant) goes on every week at harness and t-bred tracks and nothing is ever done.

The USTA has reported that Jim Pantaleano has applied for a license to race in NJ.

Looks like he'll be at Freehold.

Well, with David Hawk getting tossed too, it will be interesting to see who takes over the driving lead there..

Where do you think Hawk will try to go now?

My guess would be to race fulltime at Scioto and Lebanon.. Maybe Raceway Park too.

Wilder went to Ladbroke, so maybe he will go there.

I hear though that Tharps and Panteleano both got rejected when they tried to go to Ladbroke..
