A Rocknroll Dance Morning-Line

Choice In Jug Future

Wagering on the first of two Little Brown Jug future wagering

pools started at 12 noon on Thursday, Aug. 23, and

will continue through 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at racetracks

and internet sites throughout North America and Europe.

A Rocknroll Dance (7-2) is the morning line favorite for the first

future Jug pool. Purchased as a yearling for $15,000, the son of

Rocknroll Hanover has overcome

a slow start in his 3-year-old season

with major victories in the

Meadowlands Pace and Battle of

the Brandywine. Trained by

Jim Mulinix, A Rocknroll Dance

has now earned $2,416,175.

Adios champion Bolt The

Duer (4-1) is the second choice

over Confederation Cup and

Upper Canadian Pacing Derby

winner Michael’s Power (9-2).

The second future pool will be

from 12 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16,

through 11:30 p.m., Wednesday,

Sept. 19, the first three afternoons

of Grand Circuit racing at

the Delaware County Fair.

The minimum future wager is

$1 and all future wagers are

win betting only. The winner of

each pool will be determined

by the official first-place finisher

in the 2012 Little Brown

Jug to be raced Thursday afternoon,

Sept. 20, at the

Delaware, Ohio fairgrounds.

Every 3-year-old pacer in North America is included in the

Jug field because if a colt or gelding wins the Cane Pace he

can be supplemented into the 67th Little Brown Jug. Eliminations

for the Cane Pace, to be held at Tioga Downs, will

be Saturday, Aug. 26, with the final on Sept. 1.

A team of harness racing analysts and handicappers have

selected a group of 23 colts and geldings. Each colt and gelding

has been assigned odds based on the selection order. The

horses in each of the pools are listed in alphabetical order.

“This is the seventh year our fans at the track will have the

opportunity to place bets at the regular betting windows

throughout the fairgrounds,” said Phil Terry, general manager

and director of marketing. Last year Jug champion Big Bad

John paid $10.80 in the first pool and $7.80 in the second pool.

Complete past performance lines for all eligibles will be

available free of charge on the Little Brown Jug website:

Heston Blue Chip, Pet Rock and State Treasurer, all proven commodities on half-mile tracks, were just supplemented to the Cane. The three are not staked to the Jug, but could buy in for $45,000 if they win the Cane. I assume they would be covered by the 8-1 field choice.

Thinking Out Loud is 8-1. That was missing from the original post.

Apparently Joe Bellino had the Jug in mind when he supplemented Pet Rock to the Cane, but Ken Jacobs, the owner of Heston Blue Chip, did not:

“Even if Heston Blue Chip wins the Cane Pace, he will not go to the Little Brown Jug. Instead, Jacobs said he will send the colt to the $225,000 New York Sire Stakes championship on Sept. 22 at Yonkers Raceway.

“Then we’ve got the Breeders Crown and the Progress (Pace) and the Matron,” Jacobs said. “So we’ve still got some big races.”
