Horseplayer's lament. The leading rider at Saratoga goes to Chicago to ride the ONLY SPEED in a 1-1/4 mile turf merry-go-round to pay 7/2. Probably the bet of the year, but at least he got me out for the day.

Great for the Florida breeding program (what's left of it), too.

Joe Bravo opened the door here for Ramon when Joe told Romans that he couldn't commit to ride Little Mike in the million because he was waiting to see what the plans were for Turbo Compressor. Wrong choice.

My good friend Scott McMannis teaches his students that the only sure thing in racing is that you'll neverr have enough on the winner. I did find the only exception to that great piece of wisdom - you will only have enough on the winning combo when you have the only winning ticket - normally only in Super Exotics like a Pick Six or a Super High Five, when you win the whole net pool and any carryover.

Horseplayer's lament.

sometimes it is just greed, but if you lacked confidence in(or missed) an angle that you feel is strong, that feeling can remind you to wake up.

The whole world could see he was lone speed, which is why he was 7 to 2 and not 7 to 1. Had one other jockey bothered to try to figure that out, he probably doesn't win. I'm not sure I'd want 7 to 2 on that proposition, but after the 1st 1/4 mile I'd have taken 3 to 2.

Rahystrada had won the local prep wire-to-wire. However, they switched the jockey to Leparoux and he did not even try to go to the lead and ended up in DH for 3rd.

thought that was a key after the race was run

Race reminded of The Tin Man wiring the field in 2006.
I made some money that day.......

(apologies for the 6 year old redboarding - it's faded to a dull brown by now)

A lot of people were skeptical of him getting 10F or he would have been a lot shorter.

I watched WGN's broadcast of the Million. They interviewed some celebrities before the race for their picks--Mike Ditka, Frank Thomas and comedian Tom Dreeson. Dreeson said he would bet on Little Mike, "probably $200,000 to 300,000 to win." ;)

The Thread Title brings to mind Bonetti's Law:

The less you bet, the more you lose when you win.

The fact is that nobody ever bet enough on a winning horse...

Don't ever say "I did not bet enough" at the 1/4 pole. Bad things happen.

Anyway, good play on L. Mike. I thought he was a toss???
