A man was driving a VW beetle in Maine. The road was built into a cut in the side of a mountain. The ground sloped downward on one side of the road an upward on the other side. A moose running through the wood managed to fall off the embankment on one side of the road just as the VW came by. One of the moose's hooves penetrated the thin metal of the car's roof and hit the driver in the head, knocking him out. When authorities arrived on the scene the moose had not managed to free itself from the car but had managed to drag it down the road for some distance. They were forced to shoot the moose in order to reach the unconscious driver. When the driver woke up in the hospital and asked what had happened he was told "You were kicked in the head by a moose."
